Darn, wish I could attend but I have lab work all today and then have a tae kwon do class in the evening. Hope you guys have fun! Hope you don't mind a small essay. Thoughts wise, I think I like the show a bit better than the book, though there were definitely things to like about the book. The book definitely reads like it was written by a white dude born in the 40s who lived through the 60s and wrote this in the 80s. I've never been a fan of minimalistic writing, which the book has. Like those long periods spent with people just talking about things that happened or could happen, stuff that would have been interesting to see. I would have liked to spend more time with what was happening in the story at the time. And I wish we could get more insight into Geralt's inner world. What he was feeling and thinking. The author seems to want us to infer that with very little context clues. It made everything seem kind of empty and hard to picture for me. And then there was the part with Yennefer. I'm sorry to say I wasn't a big fan of Yennefer in the show, though I loved who they got to play her. She seemed so selfish and arrogant and mean to me after having her body changed. And in the book she seems even worse. Weird that the author implies she's that way because she was born with a physical impairment. And I really, really don't understand the romance between her and Geralt. But then again I've never understood romances that start with hatred and violence and end in furious boinking. And the author just expects us to accept it because Geralt thinks she's pretty and smells nice? I guess I'm too demisexual to understand the appeal. On the other hand, Dandelion remains the best side character ever and I would believe a romance between him and Geralt much more. I like seeing a friendship where both parties genuinely care about each other.
