What Happened This April?

April has not gone as expected for me in terms of how much output I wanted to do here and on YT.  Because of the fact that this channel is funded by viewers, on times when that happens, I want to explain why. Because I do believe y'all are owed that and each time it happens, it is a chance for me to figure out how to do better in the future.

So what happened?

Essentially, I have been making a lot of content, it just hasn't been videos.

At the beginning of the month, I went to Portland to film Magic: The Gathering content with a friend, and it was an awesome experience. I love MTG and many of you have found me through MTG, but it hasn't been a steady part of my content, because it really didn't do well with my audience. This collaboration was a way for me to do that kind of content, and with how white and male MTG is, I wanted to make sure that my face was in that kind of content.

After that, the biggest thing that has taken up my time is the upcoming podcast (can't share it publicly yet, but it is pretty big). We are doing basically a bunch of episodes at once, including interviews, which means I had to watch a lot of content, take notes, etc. It has been a fantastic experience and I feel great doing it, but it is time away from this.

The next thing is finishing up my novel and also, after talking with my agent ... I've decided to also pitch and start working on an essay collection about the experiences of Black Women* ( NB/GNC) folks in fandom. I have finished the summary outline and am working on the pitch and finding a home for it. That big Bonnie Bennett project? It's finding an even bigger home. I wanted to take that part of myself and put it somewhere tangible.

Finally, I still work full time at TMS and it is a lot of work in my days. I went back to full time because (a) I needed the money and (b) I really wanted to use the money to start doing things like hiring someone to run the book club, and to pay mods on the Discord, and help with messages here but even that has been able to happen yet.

(The sad part is, despite all of this, I still live paycheck to paycheck XD especially since I owe so much in taxes now for daring to have 1099 pay--if you get paid in 1099s please save 25% of each check, it'll save you a lot of tears).

Despite all that, I still want to and enjoy making content here. I have a lot of videos I want to make and I'm working on them as best I can. I have 3 planned for May and have started on that, and that's not even including Patreon content.

I don't want you to think I'm just sitting on my ass trying to collect. I am very conscious of everything I still need to do here and I'm sorry for those delays getting in the way of your enjoyment. May will be better, much better, and I will make sure I'm better at sharing my content with you all that is not videosβ€”and making sure you know not only am I grateful, but I'm doing my best to pay it forward.

Sincerely and humbly yours always,

Princess

I do not understand how you are so talented, thoughtful, and creative, yet also humble enough to think you owe us an explanation. I said this in a youtube comment but like, we're all basically obsessed with your content and more than happy to wait. Take your time, we're not going anywhere, don't even worry about it <3

It's so good to hear you have exciting things coming up for you!! Even though the money situation sucks (so shitty that the society we live in requires so much work out of people and still it isn't enough to get by sometimes). Please know, at least for me, I choose to support you through patreon because I love your content, not the speed at which it comes out. Also so excited for your book, and the essay collection sounds super cool too!! Anyway, long winded way of wishing you well

Thanks for the update! I'm willing to support no matter how long it takes for new content from you! I'm excited to see what's to come. :)

Sounds like your busy working on some exciting projects :) I’ll be waiting when you’re ready to put out content. Carry on and good luck!

It's okay that things take the time they take. No one here wants you to burn yourself out. Thanks for all your great work!

1: I suppose I support you for your future content, but I mostly support because of the content you've already released, that I find useful as a reference both for me and to point other people to. 2: Thanks for the 1099 advice. When I start selling some MTG sealed online I'm gonna make sure to keep 30% reserve for the tax man.

Vigilant

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing great.

I see you and ALL the work you are putting in!! Thank you for all the content 😍
