[early access] How Do We Criticize Our Own? (Also, Stop Calling Lizzo a Mammy)

Nervous this video is a little too rant-y but I'm just gonna share it with you all. Plus, that thumbnail!

Originally, this video was going to just be about Black criticism, but as more things started happening at the intersection of my Blackness and queerness I decided that I wanted to talk about them both.

We see a lot of discourse about creators of color feeling stifled by the hyper criticism they can receive from their communities. As fans, creators, critics what we enjoy becomes inherently political. So let's discuss the relationships that exist between criticism and critics, as well as exploring the frustration how we can move forward with being critical of our communities without turning it into gatekeeping or war.  Thumbnail Art by @truesquidk

You may want to check out Shanspeare's channel. She's an up and coming Black woman youtuber. Does a lot of media analysis with a touch of fashion. https://www.youtube.com/c/Shanspeare

I just spent the last hour and a half going through Angelica Bastien’s archive at Vulture and her work is amazing - thanks for the recommendation and great video as always!

So good. I'll have you know, I watched this ASAP, before What If, Nine Perfect Strangers, Reservation Dogs, or any other YouTube thing.

Forever grateful to Angelica Jade Bastién for being the only other Mortal Kombat fan I knew to think the new movie was bland as hell. (Notably MK was one of the few times I've disagreed with you over a recent release 😉)

I don't have time to watch this right now, but I love Boyfriend Dungeon and that Rumors video so I'm hyped!
