Bridgerton and the Problem of Pastel Progressivism

Bridgerton ... it's no Brandy's Cinderella, but it is a (small) step in the right direction.  70-30.

Timecodes:  00:24 : Introduction 03:31 : The Book 07:32 : The Show 17:12 : Romance  20:49 : Consent & That Scene 29:22 : To skip past explicit discussion of that scene 33:19 : Black Royals 38:39: Conclusion

Alright: new lens, new mic, new teleprompter. Ya girl is getting better at equipment, but we still have a little raggedy moments here and there. I tried some new things and I am sure you'll let me know if they work. ~ Princess

Just started a "Princess Recs" list in my notebook, which is frankly long overdue because I'm constantly being like "what was that one show that Princess was talking about in that one video that sounded interesting?..." Gonna start with Sanditon!

not me also having that sweatshirt and finna upload a video with me wearing it 😶 lemme dig into this good dinner time content edit: and we back! thank you for going over details from the book -- the question of "why this book" has only been bolded and underlined in my mind especially after hearing how much Quinn bungles discussions about race in her books/diversity in general (Beverly Jenkins is able to write Black folks during the Civil War just fine...but to your point, we should be elevating authors of color instead of expecting all white authors to flex) will definitely be checking out Sanditon & Dickinson. also there's a really good documentary on the romance novel industry called Love Between the Covers that talks at length at the way the Romance novel industry and writers have been brushed aside as "Not Good Literature." it's just a fascinating look at the history of the industry overall, especially if Bridgerton is going to spark more TV adaptations (there's already Passionflix for romance novel films but....chile)
