[early access] Redemption, Atonement & Villain-Simping

I liked this a lot, and good timing since I've been thinking more about my fav character Morrigan from Dragon Age (mostly because I'm making my boyfriend play it). Her arc from the three games so far is very well done and realistic, and don't equate "growth" with "no flaws." Her being polarizing in the fandom I think has a lot to do with the sexist elements you discussed, particularly in tandem with how she violates some "expected rules" of RPG characters (e.g., "I romanced her so why didn't she give up on her ambitions and follow me in the epilogue for a happily ever after???"). This may make less sense if you haven't played DA, but this vid has helped organize a lot of thoughts!

I have so many issues with these “actually Lorelei and Rory are bad and so gilmore girls must be bad” takes. Like you mean they’re actually flawed characters and not the idealized people you thought they were when you were younger. *shock* Anyway great video!

2021-01-17 17:57:50 +0000 UTCThis video made me think about the time we made my mom watch Star Wars but we had her watch the prequel series before the original series and she was upset that Anakin didn't have a satisfying enough redemption arc. Reorienting the storytelling like that really made us more likely to excuse Anakin's future actions because we got to see him grow up and struggle. Also the actor who played the child version of him was so cute!
