HAPPY NEW YEAR <3

2020 is heading out and I just wanted to say from the bottom of my heart thank you. This year has been hard for everyone and for any of you to keep supporting me throughout that is ... beyond words. I hope you know that it is something that makes work to maintain a certain level and I know I say it a lot, but I do not take it for granted.

I made #8 on Polygon's list of video essays for my Queer Rep video and that was something I could have only made due to the support of you all. It makes me unafraid to go outside of my comfort zone and say damn the analytics because I'm doing this for you guys. And if you all like it, then I know I'm doing good work. and even if you don't like it, I respect and trust your opinions. so thank you for 2020 and will do my best to make you prouder in 2021.

Also! What was your favorite video of mine from 2020? I am looking to keep expanding on topics I want to cover, but I'd also like to see what people have responded to.

Happy New Year and I hope 2021 leads to amazing things.

For me, I liked the Sex and the City video on why Charlotte is the best, but the Birds of Prey one made me think more about the movie, which didn't... resonate with me at first. I'm still a bit unsure about it but you made some good points and gave me a new perspective.

Why we actually need more slavery movies was my favorite and it really did change my perspective I hadn't considered a lot of what you said. The cartoons and imperialism video was my second favorite which is related to my most cherished video from you of the year which was you s5 watered my crops review of she-ra (and also the catra what people get wrong video right after that). It's the reason I found your channel at all! I really feel as if finding this channel has expanded my worldview and I know we're all always needing to improve but I found some areas where I could do more reading and more introspection because of you. And I'm always always happy to be engaging in content from other black fangirls. I hope you have a lovely 2021!

I enjoyed Empire and Imperialism in Children's Cartoons and Do We Even Deserve Jupiter Jones because they changed my mind and broadened my perspective the most.

Kira I.

My top videos of 2020 in no particular order were 1.Empire and Imperialism in Children's Cartoons—a super light topic 2. Breaking Down True Womanhood & Black Girlhood in Media and 3. 5 Reasons Why You Should Watch BIRDS OF PREY (for Comic Book Girls When WW and CM Were not Enough) and everything else related to She Ra and the Princesses of Power.

5 Reasons You Should Watch Birds of Prey finally got me to watch Birds of Prey and you were right, it's such a fun movie. I also really enjoyed Empire and Imperialism in Children's Cartoons, that video was so well thought out and executed. I liked other videos as well but those ones really stuck out to me, possibly because I enjoyed Birds of Prey so much and it is now one of my feel good movies, and because I shared the other one and had good conversation about it. I've also become more critical about themes of imperialism in media, including children's media, because of that video.

Being a new patron, I haven't watched all of 2020's videos, but my favorite was "Breaking Down True Womanhood & Black Girlhood in Media." It was so dense and illuminating. I've always thought highly of my own critique of media, but it's been from a very narrow white, male perspective. Watching your stuff makes me realize how ignorant I've been about...what I don't know I don't know. I mean really, all the videos are awesome. There's very little fluff and I always feel how much thought you've put into the topics. What made me find the channel is your videos on GoT and Watchmen. Earlier, I would avoid watching your breakdown video if the IP is new to me because I don't wanna taint my assessment, but more and more I'm watching your videos to get ideas on what else to watch. Given how much work you put into the videos though, I would think your love of the IP is priority #1, then the other fans of the IP will follow.

(That is not counting the ItsLits all of which i love)

Really like true womanhood/black girlhood, Buffy, and superhero cynicism ones. Also the last She-Ra one. I'm sure some of this is recency bias or whatever but they were solid

Happy New Year! My favorite from this year was the girlhood vid.

Happy New Year! Thanks for a 2020 filled with brain-expanding content, your videos definitely helped saving 2020. My favourite was Empire and Imperialism in Children Cartoons! I also liked a lot the Girlhood one and the Gone with the Wind one.

Ricky Dog

Happy New Year! My favorites were The Wind Can GTFO (I love a good controversy/ media deep cut), Do We Even Deserve Jupiter Jones (totally flipped my perspective, also I love an old "flop" deep cut), and Joker and Watchmen (dear God Joker was so bad/ problematic and needed to be pried from fanboy hands)

Tamara

Happy new year! My favorites aside from the aforementioned queer rep video would be the Wonder Woman 1984 review and the Cynical Superhero video. Hard to choose though, much quality.

Lootpack Jack

Happy New Year! It's been such a joy discovering and watching your videos this year! My faves were probably The Witcher essay (which made me rethink my feelings on it a bit, since it had been pitched to me as another GOT instead of a Xena-esque fun romp) and the videos where you talk about shows I probably wouldn't watch but am interested in hearing synopses of. Looking forward to more of your work in 2021!

Happy New Year! Congrats on making Polygon’s list! I love your videos and can’t wait to see what you put out next year. I think the Queer Rep and the Buffy videos were my favorite
