Added 2022-06-08 21:39:48 +0000 UTCShe tall! Y'all are probably familiar by now with how big BFCT is. I don't have many characters who can stand and look him in the eye like that! Their stupid long faces made this pose a little awkward, but whateves, this is just for the comparison. She actually wins just by a hair if you count the ears, but if you go top of the head he's a lil' bigger.
I decided to experimentally convert BFCT over to a similar shading style as what I did on the wolf. So far so good, seems to work on him as well. I had a brief moment of panic while setting up this image when I noticed that rim lighting seems to cause some serious problems; a key part of the look here that makes fur blend in so well with body is having the fur not cast any shadows. But that means any attempt at rim lighting will have the light blast right through all that fluff so you can clearly see the outline of the body underneath the fur- not ideal! Rim lighting can be very important helping characters stand out against the background so not being able to use it would be a problem. Fortunately after a minute or two I remembered that eevee's lights have a 'contact shadows' setting, and putting that on for just the rim lights seems to have saved the day.
So, that's one problem discovered and solved. It'll be interesting to see how many other problems this style has as I work with it. Expect lots of experiments going forward!
In the meantime, have a quick render of tallgirl and bigboy.
I should probably put her in a mini-animation or something soon so I can actually show her to the FA folks. Hrm...
