Sonar works 2 ways, passive which is literally just listening, the propellors make noise so you won't be able to hear anything from behind you. Different boats having different profiles, engines propellers etc gives them a unique sound signature so with enough data you can identify classes or even specific boats. Active is the pulse you hear, a sound is sent out and bounces off objects, and you hear it's return, this gives you the range. There's more than it but that's the basics. Can't believe you picked out the cook that early, never seen that good of a guess

Specifically the ones that carry 24 nuclear missiles. Since then, 4 of the missiles have been removed so they now only carry 20 (*only lol) and are no longer called 'boomers'.

2023-07-30 21:05:27 +0000 UTCFor the movies, I’ve always liked Clear and Present Danger a little more. Books wise, they’re both really good. The Amazon adaptation of “Without Remorse” was horrible. Didn’t do the book any justice at all (Funnily, I LOVE both the movie, and the book “Starship Troopers”. The only thing the movie really shares with the book is the name of some characters, and the fact they drop from orbit 😁)

2023-07-30 17:24:49 +0000 UTCGreat, forgotten (at least by me) choice by the supporter! I had heard about this but hadn't seen this one before. The acting was tremendous. Just wasn't my cup of tea. The atmosphere, and subject weren't my fav. (Edit: After thinking for a little bit, I enjoyed this more than I thought...pretty good.) Thanks for the content. Oh and you asked about the accent. The Russian General? was played by Scottish actor Sean Connery. He has a great and bad movie history you might check out.

2023-07-30 06:45:48 +0000 UTCHmm, I had the same issue with the Russian accents as well. Didn't really bother me too much tho since this a good movie otherwise. The TV show Chernobyl had the same issue. The cast was primarily British but their Russian accents weren't great. But the show is one the best series I have ever seen. As good as Band of Brothers.

2023-07-30 00:42:30 +0000 UTCAmazing reaction Biss, was one i was going to suggest to you, this is one of my favorites, it is also based on a true story BUT it was actually a big sovjet boat instead of an submarine, yet it was a massive worry that something would happen so the entire movie is based on the fear that existed back then. Love Sean Connery whom recently passed away. I often dremt of actually meeting him once. Yes Alec Baldwin is currently under going some process from the move scene Rust. He shot a camera woman and the directive. NOT sure if he was plead innocent or guilty. Yes i agree, Sean Connery, the captain is from Scotland orginally. Hard to dublicate the russian accent but i completely agree with you. The sonar mostly goes like a cone forward because you will only hear your own ship from behind. But why the red oktober wouldnt be able to use a full 360 sonar beats me actually. I believe this is one of the " Do not ask, its a movie. " thing. :)
