NTSB is known to try and point to the pilot. Pretty realistic. <3

After watching this 'with you', I just wanted to add that I still get chills watching this and I've seen it a few times. I think anyone who has been involved in Aviation can put themselves in the shoes of the people 'in control' when people are looking to you. Another comment on your Boeing/Airbus thoughts - Boeing is a pilots aircraft because it is not fully automated. It allows you to do things and fly outside of pre-programed flight envelope, whereas an airbus does not let the pilot manuever the aircraft outside of predetermined perameters specified by the selected mode. You're right on with your commentary... and in an emergency situation as a pilot, I'd want a Boeing. Though some argue that Sully made the 'perfect landing' because the flight controls on the airbus in his selected mode limited his flair to touch down just right (approx 9.5 degrees nose up... per the ntsb report, page 47: https://www.ntsb.gov/investigations/accidentreports/reports/aar1003.pdf ). I think he would have been just fine in a Boeing. Anyway, I'm gonna stop nerding out but I could write a lot more. Actual audio between the crew and ATC is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSPsrhCPt-0 ... longest comment record set; you baited me with airplanes.

Joe

4 out of 5 stars. The investigation part of the story didn't really work for me. I think the actual circumstances were interesting enough.

GREAT pick! I had just started getting my license just after this happened and I vividly remember it. It was very cool to see all the boats speed to the floating aircraft just trying to help. One of the first things they teach you in flight school is that no matter what happens in the air, you will be judged for everything you do and if it can be blamed on you - it will be. You lose an engine, you better be able to land it or the accident is on you (with a contributing factor being your engine stopped, ha). With great power comes great responsibility. What those boys did that day was amazing, but the cabin crew are the real unsung heros for getting everyone out on that wing calmly and in rafts as the back of the cabin flooded. The CRM was fantastic all around.

So, I am a New Yorker. I live in the suburbs. And I somewhat remember this event. It has been 14 years. The first thing I remember was hearing that a plane had crashed in NYC on the Hudson River and of course this happening after September 11, 2001we questioned whether or not this was this another attack. Obviously it wasn't but until all the facts came in, I think the concern was justified. I watched the news while at work that day to keep up on what was happening with the crash. Since there no casualties, There really was a sense of relief and happiness around here that after some tough times here we had some good news for a change. I remember seeing Sully on Letterman later on, and it was a big deal and he was a very likeable guy. Yeah, so anyways thanks for the flight attendant insight Biss, I learned some news things.

Tom Hanks being honored to represent Sully makes perfect sense to me.

James Evanko

Excellent movie. 5 out of 5 for me. Thank u for sharing your experiences it was really cool to hear. I would also recommend the movie Flight with Denzel Washington.

Matthew Vassalotti

Hi Biss. First wanted to thank you for giving us a small glimpse into your previous life. While i do remember this event, I have to say is isn't a movie I would have normally watched. It was fun watching your reaction and listening to your remarks. I have to give it a 4 out of 5. As usual tom hanks is excellent as is the rest of the cast. I think it would be fun to hear stories of your old job as a stewardess or flight attendant. Not sure of the correct terminology these days. And again thank you.

Andrew Zachman

I remember the event, I remember nothing about the subsequent investigation. I think the investigation component of the movie was mainly to stretch out the story to full movie length. I am sure that the investigation did happen and the facts represented here were accurate, but I don't think it was nearly as contentious as the movie let on. I almost get the feeling that they wrote the draft screenplay, floated it out to Hanks on a wing and prayer,, he accepted, and they were like "Shit, really?"

Cast Away is another great Tom Hanks movie to consider. Very emotional

Adam

This was a great choice. I haven't seen it before. It's nice watching these reactions that you have a personal connection to. Hopefully there's some more good airplane movies out there but I'm not thinking of too many, myself, except Air Force One or something like that. Not really the same theme.

James Evanko

I would give SULLY a 4.5. Tom Hanks has done better movies but this movie in particular is still entertaining.

36 degrees Fahrenheit is 2.22 degrees Celsius. So only a couple degrees above freezing.
