The Thing Full and early <3

Comments

Anyone point out that at the end McCready was carrying Molotov cocktails, not whiskey. Childs took a sip of gasoline, and didn’t react. He was the last Thing. But also maybe McCready.

Best horror sci fi film of all time gets 1 star? Ummm 🤔 This is better than the first Alien in my opinion which is also wonderful. Nothing about the effects in this film are dated except the bad matte painting of the space ship in the ice. Soundtrack, effects, acting, atmosphere, creature design and scares all still top notch. In my top ten of all horror films. 5 out of 5.

The concept of the creature in the movie is so good it’s too bad the creature effects are so very bad

Your giggles at the creature that grew the head up to the ceiling made me laugh out loud. I know just how you feel and I completely agree with your rating. As much as this is a classic movie, I remember seeing it when I was 14 years old in the theater and felt the fx were chintzy even for back then. I'm not very forgiving on effects. There was a rash of movies coming out at that time (The Troll, Legend, Ghoulies\) using the practical effects of creatures that I felt looked to 'wet' or like they were greasy or just unconvincing which made the movie more campy and comedic than scary. I was never able to suspend my disbelief so far as to really enjoy this movie for what it was. The story was a good one and it had great actors in it, but I think the execution of the fx ruined it for me.

This movie grows on you. Critics hated it at first but like Blade Runner, opinions changed over time. The Thing is defintitely a Sci Fi classic.

Ohhh Zombieland is soooo good. Would like to see a reaction however when it comes to horror/comedy I don't know how Biss will respond cuz not sure if that is her thing. I'm still very curious so I'm gonna recommend Zombieland too.

God I love Jack. If ya know ya know. If not it's a Wolf thing.

Honestly, I think you would be more up for some horror movies with humor. I would suggest American Werewolf in London or Zombieland. Bram Stoker's Dracula is a good one too...Keanu Reeves, Gary Oldman, Wynona Rider (Joyce from Stranger Things) and Anthony Hopkins, so the acting is superb. Sleepy Hollow is also good for a horror whodunit (And has a young Johnny Depp too!)

Enjoyed the reaction as I knew I would. Ok so a few thoughts and facts. First if you did not know this movie is a re-make or re-boot of the 1951 horror movie The Thing from Another World. If you are willing to try another John Carpenter film I have some thoughts. For Horror try the 1978 movie Halloween. For another Alien movie with a romantic twist try 1982 Starman .

I didn't have the nostalgia factor when I watched this the first time. And at that time, I had incredibly high expectations for it based on all the hype. When I saw you reacted to it, I was like "oh no, why did she do that." I would have given it one star the first time I watched it. Honestly, though, watching it this time, the practical effects were a lot better than I remembered. I would give it more like two stars now. And hate me all you want, but I would actually prefer watching this over the practical effect Star Wars movies. Another movie that this reminds me of but I liked better were the Screamers movies. Not anything I'd say you should run out and watch, though. I'd rather see you try the Final Destination movies, instead, because those are a different type of horror than you've watched so far and I want to see how those affect you. They are also all about gore, especially after the first one.

I grew up loving these types of horror movies. At the time it was pretty cool to see these practical effects for creature or "the thing". Watching this brings me back that time when I was a kid who loved Star wars, horror and science fiction movies. And i liked all the characters too. Although i dont know why there was no women in the crew. I give this a 4 out of 5 stars. Nostalgia influenced rating I have too admit.

WELP.... I really didn't think this movie would be for our Lady streamer. Just not her style of movie.

Rob Schofield

Oh I can totally see and understand that , thats why I felt it needs two ratings

Biss Reactions

Totally get why you gave this a low rating. Completely respect that. The movie came out in 1982 and is actually a remake of a 1950s movie. This was one of my favorite movies growing up. Yes today the effects are outdated, and don't hold up very well. But in the day before computer effects this was ground breaking. I still love this movie. 5 out of 5 for me. As a side note in 2011 they made a prequel that ends as the Norwegian helicopter takes off to kill the dog. You can pass on that movie if you want.
