George Lukas never intended this movie would be a series. His intention was to pay homage to the old serials that he watched in theaters in the 1940s and 50s. as a child. like flash gordon or superman, short movies shown with the main feature plus cartoons. usually the flash gordon episode would be ep. 4 then end on a cliffhanger so you would come back next week for ep. 5. however the nerds of the time, the 1970s, insisted that George Lukas continue the story.
