Big point of the final scene here, Armin's jaw was shot off and so he can't talk. It was part of Marco's demise but Armin has repeatedly made the effort to negotiate--talk. Why this inherited cycle of violence has been carried out by violence as the only option. Armin has been a negotiator, which is supplementary to him not being very physically capable (in his human form). In this scene when we can all bet the thing Armin wants to do is hold true to that and talk, he literally can't with his jaw shot off. So he takes yet another "Erwin Gamble" with his actions, and presses his head to the pistol. He knows that in that condition that's the only talking he can do, the only chance for negotiation and nonviolent resolutions. But this is AoT, and we need to suffer because we're the viewers. We've seen a lot of inner monologue from many character's minds and perspectives throughout this entire series. Armin's inner monologue was pretty constant this entire episode until his jaw was shot off, and we aren't let in on it. What do you think his inner voice was saying? Screaming? Begging?
