Blackbeard is such an interesting character to me.... I do think he was genuinely trying to encourage Luffy back in Jaya, even though it's kind of chilling to look back on. And he could have killed Luffy right here. But I don't think he really cares what Luffy does as long as it doesn't impede his own goals--or fate, since his whole crew seems pretty keen on the idea of fate--so he must believe in a different sort of order/morality/justice/freedom than most people. Plus he has the D in his name too... So instead of giving Luffy someone who is the total opposite of him, OP has Blackbeard as more like a 'dark' version of him. I go back a lot to the moment when they first meet, where it seems like they have opposite tastes (Luffy hating the cherry pies while Blackbeard hated the drinks). But they're also extremely similar in the way that they handle that conflict, and the way that they both think of dreams being vital to a true pirate. I can't wait to learn more about him! Love the design too, especially as he grows more and more into his own. Now that's a pirate's pirate, lmao !

2025-09-22 07:57:10 +0000 UTCSo, with Blackbeard's devil fruit, it's a high risk, high reward type of ability as it can take devil fruit powers away if he's touching the devil fruit user, but, it's a power that literally takes in everything, including pain. Blackbeard feels more pain than he would if he didn't have that devil fruit. He explained this a bit when he fought Ace as I Ace was wondering how he could hit Blackbeard if he had a logia fruit like he does. Magellan isn't messing around! He's like, "I ain't got no time for you Blackbeard" 🤣🤣🤣 Having said that, him roaring at the end and coming after Luffy is absolutely terrifying!
