However this episode provides a glimpse into why Jean craves the soft life and to a certain extent escapism. In fact, there is a really great vid on YT about Jean's character psychology titled, "This video will change how you see Jean - Jeans is [NOT] a horse". The video explores what the creator of AoT, Hajime Isayama, was going for when he created Jean's character. But you can't watch it until you've completely finished the entirety of AoT due to Season 4 spoilers. That being said, it is well worth the watch, IMHO, if you are interested in the psychology of Jean. The same YT creator also did a few other characters like Eren and Reiner which are equally worth watching but again you can't watch those vids until you're completely done with AoT. P.S. Here's a interesting fact. Apparently Jean and Armin were initially written as one character when Hajime Isayama was writing the draft of AoT. Hajime Isayama eventually decided to split that character into two different characters, Jean and Armin, in order to create two distinct and more interesting characters for the story of AoT. Lastly, this OVA also pays homage to the Japanese TV cooking show known as, "The Iron Chief".
