I dont like how Usopp is acting. Like small insecure kid, thinking only about himself.

for being insensitive towards someone they consider to be their friend and for handling the situation, as a captain and as a friend, pretty badly?

So many emotions with these 2 episodes! It's easy for us pass judgment down on fictional characters for what they should've done and what they should've avoided doing, but the way everyone acted feels real, raw, and exposed. You believe that Usopp would say those things because of the deep insecurities he feels being on a crew with members that have such monstrous strength. Then, there's the fact that the Merry was given to him by Kaya. And the fact that he's the one who takes care of the ship. He feels the deepest bond with the Merry, and he feels like he's dead weight on the crew. He feels like he's let them down with the money. He's cutting ties with them here and now because he believes that they'll eventually cut ties with him, so he might as well do it first. In a way, he's also choosing the Merry over his crewmates, drawing an invisible line in the sand and stepping over to the Merry's side. He feels like he doesn't deserve to be on this crew, so he chooses the Merry who he feels has always accepted him, even though the crew has always accepted him too. His insecurities just don't let him see that πππ
Having said all that, I do think that Luffy was more in the right than Usopp is. He didn't want Usopp to worry, so he took on more of a calmer tone, making Usopp think that he didn't care enough about the Merry (and, by extension, didn't care enough about him). The fight continues to escalate, then Luffy finally tells him the truth: the Merry can't be fixed. Now, this is the first time that Usopp is hearing this, and, if we recall, Luffy and Nami reacted the same exact way that Usopp did (just not quite as animated as Usopp is here) when they first found out. Iceberg even calls Luffy out on it calling him unfit to be a captain, much like Vivi did at the start of Drum Island. Usopp won't back down and we get the heartbreak of Usopp leaving the crew and challenging Luffy to a duel for the Merry πππ
Many of us forget that these two guys are only 17 years old here. Emotions run high in teenagers, especially these 2. Hell, in a charged situation like this, adults let there emotions get the best of them too. Both Drax and Star-Lord reacted in similar ways when facing Thanos (at different times) in Infinity War. When something/someone we care about this much is involved, throw logic out the window!
It hurts to watch this fight (and yet I do every time)! Usopp's tactics and creativity helped him out quite a bit here, but the result was always going to be inevitable. Luffy did have a hard time in this fight, mostly because of his relationship with Usopp and Usopp's unusual (but smart) methods. Usopp laid it all on the line and he was able to give Luffy a hard time, but one solid punch to his gut was enough to take him down. Usopp's resolve, while I don't agree with it, is beautiful and heartbreaking to watch πππ

I admire the fact that Usopp never gave up on The Merry. Thatβs not the issue for me. But when the best shipwrights in the world who are leading experts in the field tells you that the ship canβt be fixed no matter what, you HAVE to listen to them. And of course Luffy didnβt show the best leadership here, heβs 17 after all. Not to mention that heβs only been a captain for a few short months in canon at this point and heβs literally learning as he goes

I'm not saying he was right to fight Luffy, I'm saying he was right to never give up on Merry even if it meant going on his own. You blame all this on his insecurities when that's only half the reason behind it. Btw Luffy wasn't exactly a shining example of leadership here either.
"Oh my friend who just risked his life to recover the necessary funds to fix his beloved ship just woke up? Let me casually tell him it doesn't matter anyway since I decided were buying a new one as he was still knocked unconscious. And I'll smile like a total doofus when I break the news to him." Yeah cool, I'm sure he'll love that.
For the record Luffy's near the top of my favorite characters and Usopp's a lot lower on that same list. So this ain't me being biased, just fair.

It's crazy to me that when banded together the strawhats can overcome all odds and obstacles from the outside. What about a threat from the inside? Where there's no direction or even an enemy to fight ? This is their first time exposed to this and if you look closely not every strawhat is emotionally equipped to handle a situation like this and that's what makes this raw real moment one of my favorites in the series.

Nah i'm sorry but i can't agree to that. Nothing justifies going against Luffy to THAT level, especially when it pains Luffy as much as any of the crew to let the Merry go. I don't care what Usopp's true intentions were.

Dude. Usopp isn't only doing this out of insecurity. It's not because of Kaya either. If you know how this arc ends you should already know what I'm talking about. His deeper intentions behind defending Merry is 100% justified.

God I must've watched this pair of episodes dozens of times over the years but it never fails to make me cry. It's so hard seeing Luffy break down like that

I really recommend watching this ending if you havent yet. Its a song written specifically for One Piece called "Eternal Pose". It shows off the looks of all of the crew from the beginning of the show up till now. With zero spoilers. Its probably my personal favorite ending of One Piece.

RANT INCOMING!!!!!
And so comes the moment i can never ever forgive Usopp for. Yes, i get where he's coming from but really, you gonna be that fucking insecure that you go against Luffy because internally you feel like Luffy dumping the Merry means he'll eventually toss you aside as well? FUCK NO you lil insecure bitch. It's fucking unforgivable in my book. Ok, Rant over
