Great to see these reactions. I wasn’t sure how to feel about that part with Rem confessing only for Subaru to reject her. But definitely had a similar reaction lol By this point, Subaru definitely is on my nerves.

It's completely normal to hate Subaru up to this point, but detesting him to this point is the second time I've seen that from a reactor 😂 I'm looking forward to season 2 and 3 cuz I feel like it's gonna be blindless hate for the next few episodes too.

2025-03-25 20:29:48 +0000 UTCIt was part of Author’s trick to make us see this side of Subaru, the most down and weak side of Subaru, the greedy and obsessed side of him (from episode 12 in capital until now), because this was the perfect time to introduced this side of him without killing his character development because it is really early and make sense considering the circumstances 👀, but still you were too Cold on Subaru 😅 you could have at least give him some space

My "cope" is that rem herself said that if she were to leave with him right then and there, then she'd leave the version of him she loves the most. The one that's always tried his hardest for the people around him, her hero. Sadly though, the version she loves the most is the one that loves Emilia. It'd be a disservice to himself and rem if he wasn't true to that fact. Still peeved by it though lol

Just want add this comment to say that you know Subaru in the novel doesn't just say he loves Emilia, he says he loves both of them Rem&Emilia, but for him Emilia is the one who saved him, while for Rem Subaru is the one who saved her.

He definitely grew on me SO MUCH and I love him now, but he really drove me nuts in the beginning, I'm not used to characters like this so it was super frustrating.

2025-02-27 05:22:53 +0000 UTCHonestly, I think a lot of people who might be unhappy with your opinion on Subaru here are forgetting the fact that most of them have seen future episodes and are a lot further ahead, so they’ve seen his improvement and are struggling to see it from the point of view of a first time watcher. They’re looking at your reaction through the lense of someone who’s seen the development. When this episode first aired, a largeeeeee majority of the anime community hated Subaru, but that opinion has changed over time. Won’t lie, for me I genuinely stopped watching this anime for like 4 months after I watched this episode, lmao Now I keep up weekly.

Subaru's feelings are valid, so its abit sad to see it condensed to just being a whiny bitch. He's been through so much so he deserves some venting. Rem was able to make him see he has done some good in this world, and even tho he is going through a rough patch of failures right now.. she believes in him. Romantic feelings or not, we all need that someone to pull us out of the darkness sometimes. Especially when some of the faults he's pushing onto himself simply aren't true. Also I'm glad Subaru did not just lie or pussy foot around his feelings - he loves Emilia. Wrong timing I know, but NOTHING wrong with that. I think he was being more disgusting and selfish when he decided to give in and give Rem what she deeply desires despite knowing it would be a life built on a lie. Just because he was desperate to at least have someone by his side to ease the pain of knowing he's running away from saving the other people he loves. Subaru loves Emilia. You can't help who you fall in love with. Yes, its sad cos Rem does so much for him but that's just how human feelings work.

Truth is, we have been seeing only a little bit more of Subaru than everyone else but we still have no idea what kind of person he was before he got transported to this world. Him coming out and saying that he had all that free time and he did nothing with it but now he acts all high and mighty wanting this and that but not having anything to show for it is a really good moment showing what he truly is like. We could already see it from time to time from the start of the show (biggest part being his petty fight with Julius and later the argument with Emilia). He tried to put up a brave face and make it seem like he was trying to better himself (like Felix said, looking at him training with Wilhelm) but that was just an act like he said. He finally acknowledges that he's weak and pathetic and he can't do everything by himself. He was ready to give up. And he's right, the answer was always in front of him, just giving up wasn't the right answer though. The true right answer was always to rely on others. Not a single person can do everything by themselves and having others cover for your own shortcomings is a really important lesson to learn. I'm glad he finally understood that there are people around him that care about him and actually WANT to help him. Moments like these is why Subaru is one of my favorite characters of all time. You don't see this kind of self-reflection in a lot of anime. He feels real, he feels human. I'm sure everyone has had to come to the realization that not everything about them is perfect. It's just sometimes very hard to see what is good about you. If Rem wasn't there to tell him that, I don't think he would've ever recovered. Sometimes it takes another person to see what you have going for you in life. Now if only he chose Rem instead..... Poor Rem.

Like i think if it was any other "harem isokai" subaru wouldn't have said anything here but Re:zero isn't like that and i appreciate that

I don't think Subaru himself wants a harem, he probably genuinely loves Emilia and only Emilia and more or less looks at everyone else as friends. I feel so bad for Rem lol.
