2025-02-23 01:03:49 +0000 UTCNO SPOILERS here just some already released bits of info and observation but FEEL FREE TO SKIP if you want to go all in into cooking up theories lol Erwin has been chasing the truth since he was introduced and he will sacrifice everything to get to the next step towards it as we saw from the battle between Eren and Annie in Stohess district killing thousands of civilians Annies part in breaking the walls from looking at all that we know so far was to call the titans into the city with her scream ability but Marcels part is obviously a mystery since he didn't live that far Ymirs talk about waking from the nightmare refers to her wandering around as an ordinary titan with no control of herself outside the walls for 60 years before eating Marcel and waking up as human in that weird place This last one could be kinda considered tmi but it's mostly just an observation From the way the smiling titan acted (desire to eat people and basic way of moving around) you can say thats not one of the intelligent titans and thus there is nobody inside controlling it and its just like all the other titans roaming around

Yes, there was a better environment for ODM gear the first time around, but he was also extremely unexperienced and lacked the skill he had in the more recent fight. If Hannes had decided to fight the smiling titan back then, he would have most likely died, and then Mikasa would have died, and then Eren would have died, and then Eren's mom would still die. Sometimes the right choice is not always the "brave" one. Sacrificing yourself to save no one vs running and saving 2 children.
