2025-02-14 04:32:47 +0000 UTCtbh, I've only seen the anime version to these arcs, but I never really hated Subaru for this simply because bro has been suffering so bad and isn't in the right mind state, and if anyone goes back and rewatch everything he's been through all anime, it's obvious he's under extreme pressure. that doesn't excuse what he's said/done, but I can't feel anything but pity for him during this arc. I know the anime leaves stuff out, but I really think it's blatantly obvious how much everything that's happened in the anime so far would take a toll on Subaru's mental health (realistically, most people would be far more emotionally fucked if they experienced even half of what he's been through.)

The anime skipped something from the original light novels that I feel was quite huge and is that Al is the same as Subaru, he was also isekai there. He told that to Subaru when they were on the carriage on the way to the Royal Selection.

2025-02-13 15:42:44 +0000 UTCWorst part here is that everyone would feel the want to say something in the royal selection hall if they were in Subaru's shoes. He's such a realistic and relatable character that you can really put yourself in his shoes and understand where he's coming from, even if the things he says go a bit too far or are out of place. Not to mention he's still a teenager so being so full of himself like he was this episode is kinda normal and understandable in a way. This whole episode 13 was just such a bad look on Subaru and I think is the biggest hurdle for first time watchers of the show, his character is so shitty here (in a good way) that I imagine a lot of people are very put off by him. Sadly, it's something he needs to learn from. The ending is especially sad when you take into account the fact that Emilia wants Subaru to look at her like he looks at everyone else, thus be looked at like a normal person. But he can't since he loves her, so he wants to give her special treatment, which she interprets as she's being treated differently from everyone else because of how she looks. I think everyone collectively wanted Subaru to kill himself in this episode.
