How about a freshly transformed mermaid with a twist: Bellow the waist, her body would be an otter. As in still human sized, but otherwise otter proportions. Laying on her back, she'd look in a bit of confusion over her body, expecting a traditional mermaid tail. Possibly bent over and holding one of her short otter legs with a hand.
