Lore drop time: Lakan only bought Fengxian, and it put him deep in debt. It took him almost 4 years to pay off (and Fengxian died before he could finish paying it off). Fengxian is Granny's actual daughter. That makes Maomao Granny's actual Granddaughter. Because of that, when Fengxian contracted syphilis with no word from Lakan, she asked Granny to just tell Lakan she was dead/no more/gone as she lost her mind. So, when Lakan returns from 3 years abroad, Granny beats him for leaving her daughter with no choice but to become (essentially) a street walker. After the initial beating from Granny, he went to visit his uncle (Loumen) and saw Maomao's face, immediately realizing who she was. Still covered in blood he told her "Call me Papa". That was too much for Maomao, who had never met this man before. "Call me papa" was his calling card to her. Every time he saw her, he would say the pretty much the same thing. "Call me Papa." Maomao, knowing the history between Fengxian, Granny, Meimei, and Lakan, was hoping that Lakan would buy Meimei because Maomao knew that Lakan would never hurt her. Unfortunately, in all the years the Meimei had been the only one who would entertain Lakan, she started to feel something for him. She just knew that Fengxian would be dying soon, and wanted her "big sister" to die in a place of love, not in a forgotten annex. As a side note, Meimei does eventually get bought out, but unless the seasons keep going until book 14 (I think it's 14... each season is 2 books), we won't see that. It was enjoyable watching these with you. Now, do Season 2! Your patrons command it! ;)

2025-01-06 22:50:39 +0000 UTCMy guess is, Lakan bought out both Meimei and Fengxian. Though it's relatively unclear if Meimei is actually included in that. It's just nice to be able to see Lakan be with the love of his life again, and will be able to spend time with her in the remaining time she has left.
