It's beautiful to see Leif and Thorfinn finally got to see eachother and it didn't go even close the same way it went back in season 1. Thorfinn really has matured. The king has arrived and so has the war. We all know how it will go. At least Canute gave them a chance by not following the initial landing and slaughtering everyone on the farm. Ketil did lose out on an important advantage here though. If they got the first shot in with their bows, they could've probably killed some of them before they set foot on the farm. That one guy shooting that arrow really fucked everything up. That goes to show how bad and inexperienced the troops they have are at war. As a person who loves historical accuracy and medieval armor and weapons, it's so cool seeing Snake's gear here be so accurate to real life. It's not a 100% probably, but it's very good when compared to most other shows. Now I wish armor wasn't cosmetic to the point where people are chopping others in half through helmets and full gambeson and stuff. But I'll take what I can get. Still love the show. Speaking of Snake, I'm kinda glad he's still loyal to Ketil cause he gave him a place to be at and live, even as an outlaw, even if the Ketil isn't the same Ketil he knew. Love seeing his crew also show up, even if they are scared as all hell and know they have no chance of winning. Thorgil here is scary af. I love seeing his expertise really come to shine here as a veteran warrior, taking advantage of everything he has at his disposal, even other people. It's cute seeing Leif pay for Arnheid. He truly is the sweetest person. The scene with Arnheid and Gardar on the cart in the "afterlife" or whatever you wanna call it. So well done, dark woods here they are going through representing the world of the living and well they are just departing from it. And while the world of the living might be full of pain and despair and bloodthirsty beasts, some get to live quietly alongside everyone, represented by the deer/elk and wolf here. Just like Einar and Thorfinn. Both these episodes don't hold back on the brutality. It really is a massacre. This just shows how horrible war is. While this is a one-sided slaughter, I gotta give it to Canute telling their men to capture Ketil, not kill him and tell them to not pursue anyone with their backs towards them. Not to mention treating the bodies with care. He does realize that even though he's forced to use force here, these are still people and he doesn't want to take unnecessary lives if he can. Thorgil sneaking behind Canute was actually a good move. Canute didn't know he was there, he was looking to the side and the ships were decently far away that it could pretty easily go unnoticed. It was a lucky break for Thorgil that Wulf also left Canute's side. Worst/best part is that Thorgil would've actually won if it wasn't for Wulf coming back. All in all, he did really good still. And it seems like Ketil is also alive, it must have been someone looking like Ketil. It's super sad looking at the battlefield as well, how much pain it causes for both sides and how many lives are lost. Every single person there that died had someone in their life. It's what made Thors abandon war. Now if everyone was like that... Arnheid saying goodbye and thank you to everyone is so sad, but I'm happy that she's finally free and gets to be with her family. After all, she'd have nothing left in this world. She'd be forcefully separated from everyone she loved. Seeing Einar so heartbroken and sad made me cry. I feel so bad for him. Thorfinn is so right here as well, Einar killing Ketil wouldn't help anything. The cycle of violence would continue. It wouldn't bring back Arnheid. It's just horrible. It's okay to not forgive but in the wise words of Thors, there's nobody that deserves to be hurt. And then Thorfinn straight up said: It is about time to stop the cycle of violence.
