I love this series, I saw each one in the theater. Great reactions to them. I highly recommend you two watch a movie called Shoot to Kill with Tom Berenger, Kirstie Alley and Sidney Poitier. I think you two will really enjoy it. This film has some interesting facts with the script. The original script Joel Silver tried to buy it, it was called "simon says" with hopes of turning that into a LW4, however 20th century fox bought the script first in hopes of giving it Brandon Lee as a sequel to his film Rapid Fire but after Lee was killed on set of the Crow. After that happened they turned it into Die Hard 3. Fox and Silver brought in the screenwriter to write 4 &5 and were planning on doing like the original Reeve Superman filming both at the same time. However, Mel didn't want to do that and thought 4 was enough. The writer of pt 3 was brought in to write a new script for 4 and it was crazy. It was about Neo Nazi's s committing terrorism in LA and shooting down jets etc. Which obviously got rejected Fox said, write one about Chinese human smuggling involving the Chinese Triads and counterfeiting. The writer didn't think that would work and was uninteresting and couldn't create a film around that. Leo and Butters weren't even in the original script. Originally the whole Mel Gibson teasing Danny Glover that Butters was gay was actually how they wrote Butters originally but after shooting began everyone felt that wasn't working, so the rewrote his parts as it is in the film. And if you noticed Butters and Rianne are married but they only had that one scene together because they weren't originally together and they were already in production so they only gave them that one scene and they didn't even make physical contact. Just the looks and mouthing their lines to each other. They didn't have time or money to wait on a whole other rewrite. Filming began in Jan 98 due to the rewrites and filming issues they had already slotted for a July release, they wrapped in May, The Editor's still got it all done and released on time. Crazy. As for Rush Hour yes it started production a couple months prior to LW4, but the crazy thing about RH1 is that Eddie Murphy turned it down to do "Holy Man" ha..Wesley Snipes was offered the role but turned it down to do Blade ( a way better decision than Murphy's), and Martin Lawrence was given the script and interested and Jackie really wanted him but he turned it down due to a really low offer.

A lot of people think the fourth one is the best, and it's not that easy to argue against it. It's a lot of fun anyway, and bringing Jet Li in really raises the game on things like fight scenes. I might have seen him in Chinese movies before, I'm not sure, but it would have been certainly the first time I'd seen him in a western movie - then of course Romeo Must Die and a bunch of other movies came up really fast for him. On a 5th one, I don't think fans would give a damn about Mel Gibson directing, the studios always make weird choices that don't mesh with reality. One thing about this movie I love is the freeway scene where he drags the guy out the car, IDK even why it's just really good stunts and quite different.

Also, the reason why Mel and Danny want to do Lethal Weapon 5 is in honor of Richard Donnor. They brought this up after he died. They said though that they will not do it unless they have a good script first, but I think they could be close because of Mel directing Flight Risk last year. I think since Mel has never directed a straight up action flick before, I think he wanted to get a little action film directing experience under his belt first before just jumping head first into Lethal Weapon 5 and that’s why I think he directed Flight Risk.

I would highly recommend reacting to the television series as well. It is surprisingly good even the third and final season where they bring in Sean Willams Scott as a new lead next to Damon Wayans’s Murtaugh is still really well done and they don’t drop the ball at all. Sean Williams Scott shows a more serious side of his acting in that series.

Are you planning to react to the Lethal Weapon TV series? I remember it was quite fun, and pretty insane at times. And quite heartbreaking, really. I'd love to see what you think about it 😊
