Schindler's List (1994) - Movie WATCH ALONG

Comments

They didn't. You should reflect on why you felt the need to point this out on a movie about the Jewish experience.

dont forget about the other 70 million that died during WWII

If this movie hit an incredibly intense pressure point I would invite folks to check out the Holocaust Museum in LA. It provides a lot of context and sometimes has talks from survivors that can be attended

I think the shock of the first viewing might have made it hard to see Schindler's slow turn back to humanity. It started with the ghetto massacre and the red dress. A lot of the scenes afterwards were him putting on a facade to do small acts of kindness while appearing to be as callous as he was supposed to be in order to retain a position of power to keep involving himself with the workers. All the trinkets he's handing out are him "buying" people into his safer factory.

Strangely I didn't see this movie until I was in my 20s but I had a big interest in the Holocaust growing up. The shower scene at Auschwitz is what broke me the first time because I was so shocked it wasn't tragic. I've watched it countless times now and the "I could've got one more" line makes me cry every single time. What a masterpiece.

I'm still not ready to watch this movie just because the book had a HUGE impact on me and I'm afraid that: one - it won't get to the expectations and two - I just don't know if I can handle this story for a second time.
