THE HUNGER GAMES: Mockingjay Part 2 (2015) - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

Loved your reactions to this franchise! Catching Fire was my favorite as well. I was one of those watching in the theatres and waiting a year or so for each movie to come out, but I had read the books, so I at least knew what was going to happen. It's interesting that you brought up wondering if there were other normal countries in this world, and the Hunger Games were only taking place in this country. That's the way the Purge movies are set up - it's only happening in the United States and not other countries.

Shawshank is one of those that are waiting for an open slot in the schedule. General rule of thumb, If something is newly released like Nobody 2 and Naked Gun, then those are the ones that go up right away to capitalize on their new release. Older ones tend to wait for the slot to open up. - PLD

Loved this reaction. I think the "both sides" view that some have with it is a vast oversimplification of what the movie is actually saying. The PEOPLE of district 12 and 13 are good. It's some of the leaders that are not great (but do note that not all of the leaders are terrible - Plutarch Heavensby was part of the leadership of "both sides", and yet was really for the people). Whereas the PEOPLE in district 2 were lied to by Snow. There are not "both sides" - there are many sides, and some of them use others to attack each other. One of the most effective ways to get people to attack each other is to lie about the "other side" being worse than they really are (or more violent than they really are). And yet, clearly Snow's side DOES want to murder the other side, thus that would not be a lie. See, the general sides are not equal, even if they are both imperfect. In fact, the movie directly contradicts the idea that both sides are equal by showing us good people who were part of leadership in District 13, whereas the *leadership* of the Capital always has really bad motives (in contrast to the people in the Capital, who are swept up in Snow's lies). Conflating Gayle's sacrifice of civilians with Katniss's protection of civilians is what totalitarian regimes do. Katniss and Gayle may be on the same overall side, but they are "subfactions". The same can be said for conflating Plutarch Heavensby and Coin. Hence why there are MANY sides. I'm sure people subconsciously understand some of this nuance, but it's good to make it explicit. So, imo, both-sidesism is a vast oversimplification that does disservice to describing how oppressive regimes work. The series is great, but my main concern of it is that some people might take it and apply it to all oppositional rebellions in all of history and assume they ALL had a Coin. That's not historically accurate, because every situation is contextual. Oppositions do not necessarily lead to another authoritarian transfer. They CAN, but they do not always. In fact, non-violent oppositions are much more effective in their goals for a more just and democratic outcome than are violent oppositions.

Oh, I also wanted to ask, when is the reaction to Shawshank going up? I'm trying to wrap my head around how the shooting schedule works because I've seen reactions to Nobody 2 and the Naked Gun remake go up, and the announcement posts for those are well after the one for Shawshank. Requim For A Dream has also gone up, and the announcement for that one was on the same poster. Come to think of it, I don't see Blade on here, either, and that's on the same one too. I'm curious as to what I'm missing. Either way, love you guys, and super excited for Shawshank and The Green Mile.
