How to Train Your Dragon (2025) - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Great film & watchalong RR Crew! Just as good as the animated original to me. The cast was great! The heartfelt moments hit! TOOTHLESS the Drago-dogkitty is still cuter than ever lol...and the DRAGONS LOOKED PHENOMENAL!! That finale battle vs. the MASSIVE Level 5 Kaiju-Dragon was excellent! *This is a Top Dragon movie of all time, right up there with the original plus Dragonslayer, Dragonheart, Reign of Fire, Spirited Away, and The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.

Since Aaron asked -- I actually did see this in 4DX!! It was amazing with a couple of caveats. One is not the fault of the movie or the 4DX itself, but the theater I saw it in had a really lame fog machine. There were parts where I could tell that there was supposed to be much more fog being generated, but it barely puffed out much at all. The 4DX itself was great most of the time. The "wet" parts felt wet, without actually making you wet, if that makes sense. You felt some light splashes etc, when appropriate, but it didn't leave you feeling wet. The 3D aspect itself was well done. There weren't really any gratuitous 3D shots, like from the early days of 3D where you can tell a specific scene was specifically designed for something to jump out at you, it all felt natural. The movement is the big thing with 4DX, though. Most of the time, it was great. You felt like you were really flying along during the flying sections. However, in certain parts where things are frantic (like when Hiccup and Toothless are falling), the chairs just kinda went crazy, and it wasn't very enjoyable. But most of the time it was great. Some of the preview trailers before the movie (I specifically remember the Jurassic Park reboot) were also in 4DX, and by comparison they mostly felt terrible. It felt like the seats were moving just to move, and the motions didn't sync up with what was happening on screen. Any "fight" scenes just had the seats jarringly flick you around without much rhyme or reason. There was some of that in this movie, but the bulk of the experience was absolutely great. And, there were enough slower parts, where I could reach over and grab my soda (which had become flat from the movement lol), or my popcorn bucket on the ground, and sneak in a couple bites and a sip, without worrying about popcorn flying everywhere. It was my first 4DX movie, and I had heard some pretty negative opinions on other 4DX experiences, but How to Train Your Dragon did the 4DX right, which isn't surprising, since it did basically everything else right too. If anyone is considering watching future movies in 4DX, I'd say whether it's a good experience depends on the type of movie. It kind of does feel like you're on a Universal Studios ride for 90-120 minutes, and if it's a movie like this with great flight scenes etc, it's totally worth it. If it's an action-heavy movie where you're just being flicked around with characters fighting or shooting on-screen, and the movement doesn't really sync up to what's going on, it's not enjoyable. I'd also say that the 4DX aspects heighten the movie in some ways, but make it much harder to focus on the story. 4DX is best for a movie that you've already seen, or in this case, a reboot/retelling of a movie, where you kind of already know the plot, since the 4DX itself can be distracting. As for the movie itself - I thought it was great. How a live action remake should be done. Though I did like most aspects of some of the Disney ones (Beauty & the Beast, and Lilo & Stitch I thought were quite good, despite the dumb changes to L&S... no more Captain Gantu and Jumba becoming the bad guy), this just blew those out of the water. I will say that the most jarring change is to Astrid. She was always very motivated to be the best, but not originally as straight-up confrontational and even resentful towards Hiccup. I understand why they made this change.. it adds a bit more rivalry and tension, and it also sets her up to be even more of a badass than she was depicted in the animation... but because of this it makes their eventual romantic relationship seem more forced and like you guys said, lacking chemistry. Otherwise, wow this was a great film.
