Stranger Things Season 3, Eps 1&2 | S3PREMIERE - WATCHALONG!!!

Yeah, it has definitely a different style which results in it not being as gripping as other seasons. But most of that results from the style they went for in this one which I would call "the Edgar Wright" style or in terms of 80s probably the 80s Blockbuster Style (mostly action Blockbusters). I can understand that people who come to ST for the suspense might see this as a inferior season to the others BUT I think there are other qualities in this one that the others don't have that much because of their specific style that I really love in this season: 1. The Comedy (especially the visual comedy) in this one is far superior to the other seasons (though they have learned through this for Season 4 in a few moments). Obviously some of that comedy would also simply not work with the tone of the other seasons 2. The Character Work is I think different but still exceptional in this season 3. I think this season was by far the best in showing us all these characters going about their normal lives which grounds them and lets us connect with them even more (especially after the more wild ending of the last season) 4. The overall quality of this season is way higher than the others (even if they were already high quality). Not only because they had more budget (which they obviously had) but also the film-making quality is way higher here (transitions, framing, lighting, ...). To a degree the more rough film-making of the first two seasons helps them to portray the vibe those were going for but for a "Blockbuster" feel you needed this polished film-making 5. The References are obviously way more and more noticeable in this because it works way better in this style of Season (like I said, Edgar Wright Style) I also think Season 4, even if it was a different style again, was improved by some of the stuff they did in this season: - I am an opponent that Characters get likeable the easiest through comedy. So having them in a comedy season like this one made us like/care for all the characters even more, making their fate in the next seasons even more personal for us (+ the fact that we saw more every-day activities of your characters in this season also helped) - Some of the high-quality film-making was taken from this season straight into season 4, like the amazing transitions, some great framing (the one-shot in 4x04 comes to mind), overall better lighting throughout the entire season, ... - In a few (much smaller) moments you can still see the visual comedy of this seasons carry over though given the different style of Season 4 it is obviously smaller (what comes to mind right now is the way Max keeps looking through the binoculars at Steve for such a long time without cutting or moving the camera/scene at all)

I'll be honest, this is my least favorite season. Not to say that it isn't enjoyable; it definitely is!!! But I am of the opinion that the plot points in this one are just not as gripping as previous (or upcoming) seasons. However, I am still really looking forward to your reactions, as the action and characters are definitely really fun! ❤️

I totally remember Glamour Shots Tara! My mom did it, my high school lady friends did it... *Oh yeah '80s '90s Mall staples (in my WA State Suburb)... Food Court: Orange Julius, S'Barro Pizza & Pasta, Cinnabon, Mrs Fields Cookies, Manchu Wok, Mc'Ds right next to Kay-Bee Toys...we didn't have Hot Dog on a Stick but I moved to L.A. in '98 so I frequented the Burbank Town Center Mall one. Shops: Above The Belt, Claires (where I got my ears pierced in 8th grade) Jeans West, Sporting Image, Foot Locker, Electronics Boutique, Walden & B. Dalton Books, Musicland & Sam Goody and my fave - SUNCOAST MOVIES for VHS! MOVIE POSTERS & MERCH! Also Silver Coin Arcade RIGHT AT THE Main West Entrance was THE arcade! Great games, always packed, EPIC Street Fighter 2 & Mortal Kombat "tourneys" via "1 Coin Next Up" rules. A staple of my mall from 1985 until Silver Coin closed in 2005 I think.
