28 Days Later (2002) - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

Great reaction! My one *anti* nitpick is regarding the characters' actions through the movie. This was made in 2002, and since then we've had a TON of zombie media come out in various forms. In fact, this movie probably contributed quite a lot to that surge of Zombie movies, shows, games, etc. It's easy nowadays, having been saturated with various zombie stories, to shout at the screen "why would you do that!?" "that's a bad idea!" etc, because we've seen it all play out before, and our suspicion is ALWAYS piqued. When I saw this in 2002, that wasn't the case. Cillian going into the gas station, for example, is clearly not a great idea given what we know about zombie tropes today. But in 2002, I thought nothing of it. He was looking around, possibly scavenging, neither myself nor my friends watching this realized the danger of this until it was too late.. much like the characters in the movie itself. Roxy even mentions how her and Tara have been watching so many horror movies, which lets them internalize all the "tropes" etc. You gotta remember, in most zombie movies, zombies aren't part of the cultural zeitgeist, and therefore, people do "dumb" things that we as audience members know better than to do. However, in spite of the little "dumb" parts, like Roxy and Tara state, it's still a smart movie with smart characters :)

Lol at Tara leaving Roxy high five hangin' intro!Danny Boyle is a Top 10 fave director for me, he has so many varied films his long career, so it's cool to see him coming back for 28 Years Later... Oh, I TOTALLY rewatched 28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later the first few weeks of the Covid Pandemic start that mid-March 2020. Also Stephen Soderberg's excellent "Contagion" film which was spot on for Pandemic Reality. It was my way of working out how bad it could potentially get (28 Days Rage Infection = REALLY BAD) vs. the Contagion scenario which was pretty bad vs. Covid19 which was bad too, but at least Danny Boyle's Fast Infected RAGE virus end of days vision was NOT our 2020 Pandemic reality (*save for those that lost loved ones, I knew 2 co-workers, ages 35 & 28 who didn't take the pre-vaccine period of months quarantine seriously, and both died via getting covid 1 month after attending a Hollywood Hills "Anti-Quarantine" house party in late August 2020).
