Ya'll are more patient folks than I lol! I could not be a Reactor for the best of the best films that get released, for a film like "Sinners" I NEED that Thursday opening night excitement, hyped filmbuff crowd & vibes, I need my Dolby or IMAX screen & sound and that's what I got at "Sinners" Uni-Citiwalk on April 17th...Ryan Coogler created SUCH AN AWESOME FILM EXPERIENCE!! (as I saw Sinners 3 more times in cinemas since).
The familial bonds & having a good time with your community and "sexy time" themes, the historical influence of black culture that even as a '80s suburbia kid Gen X'er, the black culture still reached my eyes/ears/tastes and experiences. I loved B-Boys & B-Girls breakdancing & breakbeats, then into the explosion and world wide acclaim for hip-hop as a '90s teen followed. Plus the layered commentary on our American history of Immigration/Slavery/Assimilation, and the part dogmatic Christian Religion has played in questionable fellowship (ahem The KKKlan) but real division for all American Immigrants & African American slaves...
Longtime friend & collaborator of Coogler, Ludwig Gorransson's score and the Blues Juke Joint songs are AWESOME!! PLUS GREAT PRACTICAL EFFECTS & GORE all throughout.
"Sinners" is already in the Top 3 for me for 2025 films, I love this movie AND THIS WORLD that Coogler created!! So much he could dive into still: you got the Choctaw Tribe Vampire Hunters, the Haights vs Vampires maybe, and the history of Immortals Smoke & Mary, maybe are influencing the ATL '90s music scene of TLC & Jodeci & Dupri, or the beefs between West vs East Coast hip-hop legends Tupac & Biggie?! Who knows! I just REALLY dug the film's coda with Preacher Boy, MB Jordan & Haliee Steinfeld looking so '90s specific fresh via New Jack Swing & "Fly Girl" styles hahaha!
Enjoy all the "Fellowship & Love" before the Roof! The Roof! The Roof! is on fi-yahhhh John, Aaron & Andrew :)
