Poetic Justice (1993) - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

Thank you for doing this! Love Janet so much - been a fan since 86. Actually just saw her residency in Vegas this past weekend / she is incredible. Few things about this movie you may not know or caught: - it’s funny you mentioned the recurring song playing - and then when the full song played at the end for the credits you turned it off 🤦🏾‍♂️😂 Greg, for the love of everything, stop cutting movies credits off 🙃 But the song playing is the song “Again” that Janet wrote for the film. It was nominated for an Academy Award but lost unfortunately to Bruce Springsteens “Streets of Philadelphia”. Janet performed it at the Oscars that year. - The Mexican guy that worked at the post office with Lucky was Janets then husband Rene Elizondo. He directed some of Janets most iconic music videos (Thats the way love goes and the Video for this song Again). They were actually secretly married for a decade- no one knew they were married until they divorced in 2000. - Janet had nothing to do with that publicity stunt John Singleton and Tupac came up with. That stunt made parts of the black community mad at her thinking she made him take a HIV test when she didn’t. - The burnt buildings they showed around town was after the Rodney King riots in LA - thats why so many businesses are burned up. -Janet had just beat Micheal and Madonna with the biggest recording contract ever - this movie came out along with her album janet. And it was explosive having signed that deal and have a #1 movie and album at the same time. This was the start of her prime in music. The janet. album went on to 20x platinum. This movie is extremely authentic and yes, like most films of this time, it doesn’t spend its time trying to structure this amazing complex story- it allows the natural slice of life to structure that complex story with environment and guide you through a different lens of being black in LA. Its difficult for those u familiar with life to relate or connect - so I get it with Greg. But this film was very natural and accurate to the times.

I may edit thus comment since I'm early in the reaction but Justice was burning her hair as a way to seal the ends of the fake hair. This way it doesn't unravel. That used to be the method but now we just dip the ends in super hot water. The hair is a synthetic material called Kanakelon. Love these reactions especially during Black History Month!!!!!
