THE LORD OF THE RINGS: The Two Towers (2003) | Theatrical Cut - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

Again I hope they at least watch the third extended because a whole opening sequence is shockingly not in the theatrical. How about a poll where we pick which one they watch. Extended spoiler: there is no Saruman at all in the theatrical cut, no skull avalanche nor a great little Gandalf vs the Witch King.

Andrew Roach

I will say it actually surprised me how much was cut out, key scenes, even just helpful dialogue. I don't think I ever saw the theatrical versions except the first one my entire life since I was too young when they came out in theatre and so my mind was a little blown by how much is lost story wise without those scenes. Certain complaints the girls have would also be addressed if they had the info BUT they said they're really enjoying the journey and aim to watch the extended so I hope they will soon, or at least before they watch more LOTRs content (if they do, hoping so!)

When most everyone says you should have been doing the extended versions perhaps listening to paying patreons is a good idea. These are great reactions and I hate being a negative Ned but it really hurts as this is why I signed on and probably won't stay after the third.

Andrew Roach

After the theatricals they should definitely do the extended. It’s over an hour of extra story building each movie.

Justin Urameshi

They actually filmed all 3 movies simultaneously. Not in order, obviously, that's not how it's done, so doing scenes from all over the place in the story would have been so discombobulating!

i always love and enjoy seeing first time reactions to LOTR, however, i've noticed that the reactors' need to entertain and 'react,' oftentimes distracts them from the film and prevents them from getting immersed and causes them to miss obvious dialog and information. i hope they can go back and really get lost in the extended version and get that full magical experience.

Also think it's funny how roxy is so on Argorn's side, defending and getting mad at Theodon, made me laugh every time you started getting so angry about it!

Jules R

I really hope you two eventually watch the extended one day, there is a whole hour missing from this movie that you missed. Although I do think it's a good idea to watch the theatrical one first so you get all the extra good scenes after, some of the best scenes are in those!

Jules R

I don't have max being not in the US so I too only have the extended but I just pause the reaction during the extended scenes and re sync it after.

Thanks! This was awesome! I love Treebeard and the Ents...Merry and Pippen for the win...Gimli is absolutely an underrated hero...Aragorn is still the greatest...except for Sam, who will always be #1 for me. The Battle of Helmsdeep is an amazing feat with just a crazy scale, and Haldir (leader of the elf warriors that show up) dying breaks my heart. Ultimately, the scenes of Gollum and Smeagol fighting for power is the most memorable part of this movie for me. I never read the books, and I am completely with you on needing to watch more than a few times to really understand everything and be able to just sit back and enjoy. Can't wait for the next one!!!

Come on, Isengard is the one with the small tower and big circle around it. Mordor is the one with the mega ass volcano and gigantic tower with a large flaming eye and a wasteland as far as the eye can see. 😭

Roxy would love the extended cut just for the opening with Sauroman. Love seeing their reactions to the theatricals but hope they eventually catch at least Return of the king extended. Much love shejects! Great Sunday reaction ❤️❤️❤️

I'm in the UK, so unfortunately I can't access Max.

The only time I’ve watched the theatrical version was the first time. This is the first time in more than a decade and a half seeing it after experiencing the extended edition multiple times, and man can you really feel how much it’s missing. It sucks looking forward to a scene only to realise it got skipped over. They’re basically going to have no idea what happens to Saruman in Return of the King because they completely removed that scene entirely.

Maxie

The Theatrical versions are available on MAX! - PLD

This is EXACTLY what I needed today, thank you! <3

I really want to do the watch-along, but I only have the extended cuts. I'll just have to watch the YouTube highlights instead.

Growing up this was my favorite, especially the Battle of Helmsdeep. Now, Return of the King EE is my favorite, the emotions and feels hit me differently.
