I grew up watching Tyler Perry because relatives would have his plays on. The original target audience were elderly churchgoing black women. But the movies expanded the audience and introduced black Southern culture to outside people. And it’s interesting seeing this movie from Greg’s POV. I’m not religious anymore so the Christian themes are cringy to me now. But in terms of black Southern culture these movies are pretty accurate although hyperbolic.
