INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (1994) - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

ok FINALLY watched. been about 15 years since I've seen this movie. In memory, it was meaningful to me when I was younger-- feeling emotional for Kristen's character because she was a woman trapped in a girls' body. Just how lonely and devolved that would feel. And in re-watching it's still a big take away of it. As far as story.....now that we've all had longform storytelling, it feels undercooked in the early developmental stages. Secondly, having it heavy on narration made me feel like there was a vail between myself as a viewer and a tangible story. I would've liked to have felt in the moment more. I actually appreciate the themes that are explored in this. I totally understand Roxy's take on it though! I could tell she was very uncomfortable throughout the film. The very ending of Tom Cruise is always pretty iconic for me.!

I hope you guys react to the show!

I’m with Roxy on this one…I don’t love this movie and it also makes me uncomfortable with some of the dynamics. I’m glad Kirsten Dunst was protected on set from what I’ve heard, but still had to be a strange experience lol. Also, I LOVE the fact the Christian Slater donated his salary to River Phoenix’s favorite charities. What a king 👑

I’m excited to finally see TVL in live action with this 3rd season. The story is incredible and full of amazing lore. Hopefully it does well enough to get us to Queen of the Damned and we can finally get some justice from the train wreck of a movie we got .

I think you guys need to react to Meet Joe Black. Certainly not in the same category as Interview with a Vampire, but Brad Pitt's character has some similarities in terms of presence. Underrated film, IMO.

Roxy, there was a gay subtext. If you want to see more of a type of "romance", you should check out the show "Interview with a vampire". I'll just say outright claudia's character is older, and the sexual tension between lestat and louie is no longer subtext lol

Awesome detailed response! As someone who has read the series, I concur that The Vampire Lestat is a much better look at the character! - PLD

Ok this might be long. But as an avid reader of the entire Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles, one thing that they explain is to be Vampire is to feel everything 100x more intensely. Everything holds and strikes immense passion and for whatever you’re feeling. Drinking blood and getting bitten is almost every good feeling you’ve ever had , at once; it’s life, it’s sex, it’s learning, it’s a sunny day, it’s that promotion you’ve always wanted , it’s everything. Also once you become Vampire you no longer think of sex at all . Intimacy yes. Sex , not at all. The organs don’t work so there’s never any interest in anything physically sexual except for maybe kissing but even that is done tastefully and only in very important situations .To love another vampire is to be everything at once to them, father, mother, son , daughter , teacher , student, lover , protector all of it without any thought of at all of actual sex. Closeness , talking , walking teaching and learning, hunting together, just spending time with each other are pretty much the indicators of love and affection. It is… something to get used to while reading since we have our “human, mortal values”. But the books try to get you to understand , they are not human, time and age are nothing to them, bodies are just the shells of the soul and they do not care how things look to us rather care for exactly what things are. It’s done tastefully in the books and it’s not egregious when it when happens. But they really try to hammer in the notion of Passion and intimacy rather than Sexuality. Seeing as they all ride a very close line I can see how this can come off. If you’re a reader at all I suggest reading The Vampire Lestat, the second book in the chronicles and the best true look at Lestat ( we’ve only seen Louie’s skewed view of him) and what it’s like to a vampire. Final thought, give the series a shot, while being different from the books it keeps its true heart and explains things better and is extremely well done

I genuinely understand why people love this movie (though I have many critiques), so believe me when I say the tv show takes it to a completely different level 😫 you gotta watch even if you never react!

The show on amc is so much better imo

Blake

I have always been mixed on this film, but I appreciate the take of having a vampire with somewhat of a conscious, and what that looks like from Brad Pitt’s character. I thought that was a unique angle to take this film.

Cody Price

I have always loved this movie. It's funny, I didn't realize that Lestat was Tom Cruise until the 3rd time I watched it. Obviously I didn't pay attention during the opening credits so I was shocked when Antonio Banderas shows up. I still need to check out the show.

This was a great reaction, despite Roxy not loving it and John not being too sure. I don’t love it either, but the sets, score, costumes and make up are excellent. I saw the movie before I even thought about reading the books and it kind of put me off, even though my older sister says they are great. I feel like Lost Boys would be more up both of your alleys if you haven’t already seen it. It’s funny, it has a phenomenal soundtrack, awesome cast full of 80s and 90s legends. Btw I’d be more than happy to break my no-spending ban on a VampTramps or RonJoxy shirt! I think it’s a great idea
