There's a youtube video that goes through all the shots/scenes that were in the trailer that didn't make it into the film and it becomes clear an incredible amount was cut out at a late stage. It seems like the cuts were made so they could add in the Melody storyline but that was a strange decision to me because I found that storyline the weakest aspect.
