HELLBOY II: The Golden Army (2008) - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

Really loved getting to watch these movies with you. They’re two of my favorites. I have a poster from an art show of movie sequels we’ll never get and it’s for Hellboy 3. I have him tattooed on my arm and I have a few statues and figures in my house. Just adore big red. The comic book ended a few years ago but I put off reading the final chapter of it because I wasn’t ready to see it end. I finally did this year after getting the MASSIVE 15 pound giant hardback edition of all his comics. It’s very unwieldy to try and read but worth it. I really didn’t like the reboot. It felt too hard edge. Hellboy is dark but it’s not that gory. There is soooo much blood and gore with lots of REALLY bad CGI. I’m curious about the new one coming up because it’s stripped back but it may still rely too much on CGI and without the budget to back it… that’s a mistake. Millennium Media puts out one watchable movie for ever 20 pieces of crap. And I mean WATCHABLE. Not good. Just not offensively shitty.

The voice for Abe is Doug Jones, the man in the suit. he was supposed to be the voice the whole time but the original studio forced them to dub over him. Doug Jones is also the Shape of Water guy and he’s GREAT on Star Trek Discovery.

I would second this if only for the reason it gives me a reason to watch it! After the negative reviews it got put on a backburner and I never did get to it... - PLD

The Reel Rejects

The Hellboy reboot is worth doing because of David Harbour’s performance as Hellboy and actually for the CGI. It has a unique visual aesthetic that really works for the film and never takes you out of the film. Also, Ian McShane plays Hellboy’s father in this one.
