Not that I'm a huge fan of S12, but the polaris thing made some sense to me.
The demon was powering down Lucifer's vessel-cage over the last few weeks, and in this episode he found that while he was powering down the spells/sigils that limited Lucifer's power, it was transferring the power to the other side (i.e. transferring power from Crowley to Lucifer). The demon said that the spellwork worked by connecting Lucifer's vessel and Crowley's (that's why Lucifer was acting as Crowley's "puppet" and why when Crowley performed an action, Lucifer would be forced to do the same, because their vessels had been magically connected) and by the demon powering down the forces that put Lucifer under Crowley's control, the magic went the other way.
Think of it like, there's two glasses of water side by side. One is full and the other is empty. The full glass represents Crowley's hold over Lucifer and the empty glass represents Lucifer's lack of power. The spell connects the two glasses, and when the demon pushed water out of Crowley's glass, it had to go somewhere, so it spilled into Lucifer's glass. Since the two glasses are still magically connected, it gave Lucifer the power over Crowley instead. It's like a "magic can neither be created nor destroyed, but only moved" type of thing. But anyway. Yeah. Season.... 12 😔

Yeah, its not a good episode. Season 12 is strange in that it often feels like they have too much story to get through in an episode and so take short cut decisions that jar with the characters (or as in this episode make zero sense at all) but then they also have loads of filler episodes in the season that easily could have been cut. I do genuinely like the final two episodes though, they feel to me like they get themselves back on track. Hopefully you can enjoy them without too much baggage from the last few.

This was a bad episode IMO. In hindsight S12 is better than I initially thought, but still not as good as S11, 13, 14.
First, HOW does the polaris work with Lucifer's vessel & Crowley? It doesn't make sense.
Second, that last scene was soooo cheesy and unnecessary.
Third, killing off Eileen? BS.
Fourth, if you think that wirework w/Crowley was bad, just wait. There is a scene in a future episode that is hysterical, but it's not meant to be. Even the show acknowledged immediately that it didn't know how to do wirework and the scene is bad.
