I know it wasn't intentional, but there have been many things that have been spoiled for me as someone who had never played the game.
After the first episode, I had no idea if Joel would find Tommy or even find him alive, but a few episodes ago, one of you said something like you were wondering what Tommy is doing. Well, at that point I knew he was alive.
I didn't know what a clicker was until one of you mentioned the name and the events in the museum.
In this episode when the people found Joel and Ellie and had the dog smell them, I had no idea what was going on or who those people were until one of you mentioned that you thought you knew who Maria was and that they were at Tommy's community when they got to the gates. For me, I think Joel seeing Tommy for the first time and calling his name would have been more meaningful if I didn't know it was coming. Another thing that became quite clear to me is that we will be returning to Jackson. At the end of this episode, I would not have known that except for the fact that you got so excited when seeing specific people and asking stuff like "Are they gonna do that?" "Is this what I think it is?" All the fist bumping while Joel and Ellie were in Jackson and one of you asking if the other one recognized where Joel and Tommy were and pointed out when they were in the "work shop." I also now know that there is something with Shimmer that I wish I didn't know. Again I know you were getting excited to see things sooner than you thought and in live action and you didn't mean to ruin anything. I think I will watch by myself and then rewatch your reaction or maybe just watch John's reaction as long as he doesn't play part 2 in the meanwhile.

I agree that there are some things that I liked better in the game than the show and this was the first episode I felt that way. But when it comes down to not fighting as many hunters or raiders in the show, I think that it makes total sense. Joel is older and weaker in the show than in the game and that's for obvious gameplay vs show reasons but in particular, in this episode, Joel specifically goes into detail about how he is weaker now and older and can't fight a bunch of people to protect Ellie and it would be weird if all of a sudden he fought a bunch of hunters a couple of scenes later while leaving the college.
I struggled with this feeling all week while sitting on the show because I agree that the whole college scene felt better in the game over the show it felt more immersive but I think that's because they nailed the video game aspect of that part so well and not quite sure it would make sense/work in a show format. But that's just imo. Loved this episode and your guy's reaction I just felt that I felt the same way you guys did and had to really think about it all week.

I absolutely adore this reaction. Your excitement is just too fun. As a non gamer I love seeing your reactions to seemingly unimportant details, case and point, your reaction to Shimmer ๐คฃ I was not expecting that outburst and I loved it. I literally had to play it back to see it a second time lol!
This episode was great, it was so layered in emotion. I especially loved the interactions with Joel and Tommy. My heart was breaking for Joel as he expressed his fear and feelings of failure, I could just feel that weight on him and finally having someone he could be vulnerable with ๐ฅบ
Loved Ellie's smart mouth as always. But also the scene in the room with Joel where he says she's not his daughter. I was so glad he came back around and gave her the choice. The best moment was how she said let's go without a second of hesitation ๐ฅฐ I loved you're reaction to this scene as well. I could see Greg smiling knowing what was gonna happen as they walked in to get the horse, then you see Joel, and Greg holds his chest and Andrew let's out that little "eeeeee" ๐
And the last scene ๐ฅ Also, I agree the landscapes in this show are fucking stunning. I just love everything about this show really haha.
Oh and I see where you're coming from Greg, and what I can say as a non gamer is that the scenes of Joel and Ellie bonding are always my favorite so I would have loved to see more of those interactions. But at the same time, I didn't feel like anything was necessarily missing, maybe because there are so few scenes they actually hold more weight to me? I dont know. But anyways, thanks for sharing your thoughts, I always love hearing the differences between the show and the game. Much love ๐ค
