Chapter 11 of No Joy (NJiC)- Throwing Stars is out for Squires!

It's been a while since I felt fully happy with all I wrote-one of the scenes here was one of the things I envisioned from the very inception of the No Joy. Also, I added some extra non-Dragonstone PoVs for those of you who wanted to see how things ripple out and they turned to my liking. Do let me know what you think.

2025-03-17 17:02:42 +0000 UTCThis was a brilliant chapter. Jon receiving some clarity and purpose was the big one - both a generalized hope for the future and a present desire for vengeance. Cannibal is cooked. Rhaena feeling a bit helpless is pretty normal. I’ll admit I was a bit distressed with Grey Ghost’s passing. I was beginning to like the cowardly [but sensible] dragon. Cregan’s POV was well done. He reminds me of what I think a Rickard Stark would have been like. Sara and Jace, rumor or reality? Aegon is vying to be among the top 5 worse Targaryen monarchs. Excluding Maegor, as the man did nothing wrong (well, other than torture and murder his nephew, murder his workers, and a few other homicidal acts of insanity). Aegon and Aemond appear to accept the theory that Jon is Viserys’ bastard. Which mean the realm will accept it, as it explains Viserys sudden extreme benevolence prior to death and Jon’s skill set. Poor Jon. I liked Jon and Brooke’s interactions. Jon falling into a protector role for the villagers was a nice touch. He is building an entourage and following without even trying.

2025-03-17 09:55:38 +0000 UTCHell yeah !! Great chapter. Probably the best so far. Poor Cannibal. He really, really pissed off the biggest baddest wolf around and very soon he is going to regret it. He will feel what it means to be prey instead of hunter. I want him to feel afraid before the end comes. While right now Rhaena is obviously in shock, she did see the Bronze Fury trying to help. Given her poor attempt at bonding with him, he sure as hell didn't came for her. The timing is also suspicious when you think about it logically. She must have heard the rumour about him being half Targaryen. Thus, considering she is a smart cookie, there is a decent chance she will begin to suspect that Jon has bonded with a dragon. Furthermore, Silverwing looks right now to be her best option and if Jon can separate her from Vermithor then she has might be able to bond. I know what you said about fewer POVs. However, you are not GRRM and you don't need a full chapter for that POV. Cregan's actions are reasonable, however I do have to wonder if Jace spending 3 months in Winterfell is cannon, but it seems a bit odd unless it is a side plot, he is the Heir, there is a war going on, spending that much time in the most remote relevant location doesn't seem wise. Also, as I said in my comment for the last chapter or on Discord, a decent strategist will not completely ignore Jon Stark, he is just a pawn on the chessboard for now as far as everyone knows, but he is on the chessboard ... good to see that confirmed. The kiss between Jon and Rhaena was really well done. As was the starfish story vowen in, however I thought of it as soon as I red the chapter's title. I would suggest you change it, imho is a bit too much of a hint.

Hopefully she can put the peices together and go and get Silverwing soon. Her and Jon in the battle of the gullet might just be the change the blacks need to win the war. Or if he and daemon ambush Vhegar then I'm pretty sure they could win. I wonder how The Targaryens are going to feel if/when they find out Jon could have joined the war at any time. Is Jon about to earn a nickname for slaying the cannibal? Kill a dragon with skyfall.

Not surprised Grey Ghost got fridged, Vermithor is our bronze Romeo so he comes as a package deal who’s mate is unattached so Rhaena’s about to get an upgrade for her dragon insurance. Jonno’s got his motivation back and now he’s fuckin’ pissed! I wonder if dangling Cannibal over the water will be how our humble fisherman achieves his greatest catch yet by reeling in a kraken?

I enjoyed the non-dragonstone POVs. Jace does seem like the best option, and I always love some Cregan Stark. completely forgot that Aegon and Aemond would view Jon as their bastard brother after the theories were made after the trial.

Rhaena saw Jon consider her actions, listen to her words, and change his behavior, plus he’s hot, so she’s also cooked. Glad to see him get his motivation back. I’ve never seen or heard the Starfish story before, but I greatly enjoyed it. You do what you can is such a simple and great message, one the Jon knew and was even acting on still, but hadn’t applied to the wider situation. I wonder if Daemon will be coming around to thank him for saving his daughter, again. Broome being Jon’s sworn man is hype.
