Chapter 01 aka prologue of No Joy in Command (NJiC) is out for Squires!
Added 2025-01-06 02:46:12 +0000 UTCWell, here we are. For this fic, I am setting my goal for an average chapter to be of 5-7k words, no more monstrously-sized 10k+ ones that get me burned out and forced me to comb over edits for days later.
An obvious warning - this is a crack-taken-seriously fic. It means I won't triple down on gritty realism or too much details. It will also centre around Jon Snow almost exclusively, unlike SD.
Anyway, do give me your first impressions-don't be shy yo.

Man, if only all "crack" fics could be as good as this one, but I digress While Jon not having Longclaw is by all counts a blessing for one reason or another, it's a shame that he lost Ghost as well in this bit of long-winded travel. But I suppose there's nothing stopping Jon in the future after he's secured his slice of the land and all that jazz from going over North to get himself a direwolf to match the Stark to the Dragon's Targaryan. Speaking of dragon, I'm curious if you'll have Jon try warging into a one in the early days of trying to tame one and not die in the process. I think to date I've seen like only one instance of a Jon Snow trying it (which is strange, given people's insistence on giving Stark-rised Jon a dragon in his own timeline) All that aside, I'm also curious why things have gone so much worse for this version of the War against the Others when SD!Jon in a far worse position (at least, if my reading of this and SD's White Walker war is correct) managed to almost pull a win - assuming Jon himself has remained largely unchanged, outside of the differences in personality, shouldn't he have actually won this version of the War? Finally, I wonder what this Jon's reason for fighting will be going forward, since there's the question of why even bother doing anything to try and better the realm if the world will end in about 2 centuries one way or another anyways. Whether that be by the cataclysmic meteor or the Others

2025-01-15 09:01:05 +0000 UTCThe story is young but I like the beginning, Jon's attitude "I have no hope or solution...but that doesn't mean I'm giving up." at the beginning and his "anchor" Ghost/rickon gives an interesting insight. Crack is not bad if it's good crack, Dragonwolf was crack too if we're honest and I liked it. The fact that he doesn't have Longclaw doesn't bother me, there are other swords he can "get" at that time and too much focus on the sword and not the swordsman is not good. I'm interested in how he integrates into "society". He has a few options, I think you said he knows who his parents are (thinking R+L=j), that gives the first possibility dragon. Probably not as simple as I say here, the Targs won't like a dragon rider who isn't part of the family, but who knows, maybe there's a simple explanation (like in a few fics, demon thinks he's his bastard etc.).

Hahaha The cannibal killing a dragon and Aethan being like well another one bites the dust… any way. 😭 They must have dragons crawling all over if the death of one doesn’t even get a second glance. I wonder how Jon will make his way in this period. At least he knows his history? I don’t doubt that part. But how on earth will he end up with Rhaena?! He doesn’t exactly have a name or family to claim him. You saying this will be a crack fic is delights. I love some whimsy.
