2024-02-05 18:57:23 +0000 UTCThe Blackfish and Bronze Yohn are great knights, but their exact skill in command is unknown, and they are not exactly expected to lead whole armies either way. The Vale situation is tentative because Lysa has notoriously barricaded herself into the Eyrie, and if you read the previous chapters closely, she even forbade the knights of the Vale to attend the tourney in king's landing - to those who have eyes to see this speaks loudly in a painful way. If I have to be completely honest, nobody of the big lords fears Tywin Lannister - who is a man who can only win against unprepared and heavily outnumbered foes. And right now Renly holds the number advantage. They are definitely worried about Eddard Stark, but that is to be explored later. It's not like Eddard Stark is not without his own problems with the stuff Beyond the Wall - if that stuff is serious enough to the Quiet Wolf, obviously it can't be ignored. Mace set conditions forth to Renly, and now they're fulfilled, and the rose lord simply controls almost the whole of that court, along with the 'rainbow guard'. It's an obvious power grab as far as power grabs go. That's not to say that Renly - Tyrell situation won't be expanded upon further in the following chapters. I try to avoid cramming down thousands and thousands of words and too many events in a single chapter. That being said, I might come back and revisit the Garlan PoV in the coming chapter.

Shouldn’t they be worried about the likes of Eddard, the Blackfish and Bronze Yohn coming to the aid of the Lannisters? Because I mean outside of a quick victory they would be left fighting a bitter and protracted war like the Dance with the real possibility of being forced to try and overcome Casterly Rock and the natural and man made defences of the North and Vale.

They have Randyll Tarly, the only man who defeated Robert Baratheon here, and Stannis the naval commander supreme has been replaced with a dude who has barely travelled once on a ship in his entire life

From their perspective this seems very possible to dissolve into a bitter war with little gain. Does Margery need to be Queen so bad? I'd think they'd first try and secure some other concessions before going into open revolt on a thin justification. Well that's my armchair general take

Is this a step up from his canon behavior though? I wonder if Tywin believes the rumors after seeing his grandsons madness..? I’m praying that Oberyn survives the battle with the Others. I’m looking forward to the storyline on the wall. I wonder how Renly will do this go around! Margaery can’t exactly marry Joffrey after his death.
