But Varys doesn't know about Jon. And Ned is considered lost/dead. In canon, all of Varys's plans bank on nobody knowing his motives and the full picture. Though, to be fair, I am not entirely happy with how Varys's pov played out and I might come back to revisit it.

I get the idea that Varys believes people will go along with anything if they want it to be true and there’s at least a veneer of legitimacy, but this plot is a WILD flex from him. Does he know about Jon? Because if he doesn’t, then the lie seems at least a little more logical. But even then, he’s still only mostly sure Ned is dead, which is a huge risk. Plus, regardless of whether he knows about Jon, how can he bank on the belief that Ned never told anyone the truth? Say Aegon appears pretending to be Lyanna’s son; what happens if Catelyn says that Ned confided in her the whole story of the ToJ, and his sister was never pregnant? In that case, the North is immediately out on Aegon. Coupled with Ned’s sterling reputation as an honest man, that’s going to turn a lot of other heads in Westeros as well. Again, I accept that people may still just go along with the story because they want it be true. Plus Varys probably believes that if Aegon is the last one left standing at the end, then it just doesn’t matter who his parents are. But the whole thing seems like a risky gamble from a man who is shown to be meticulous in his planning and plotting.

Wow I am amazed those guys made it to Dothraki. At least now we know where Eddard is. I am guessing you will show us what he is dreaming about next? Varys really should be boiled alive or something as vile for this forked tongue.
