He had a decent success in canon because the wildlings were already broken, and he only took the ones willing to swear by the peace, pay tribute, and give hostages. The North also had little grounds to object, because they did not provide much aid when Mance Rayder attacked the Wall, and were also devastated by the war of the five king and the Ironborn.

2023-05-07 20:31:21 +0000 UTCI actually really like Ned's punishment for Arya, if only because I've never seen a fanfic that doesn't praise Arya to high heavens for essentially being a spoiled brat who doesn't understand the consequences of her actions. I also like that Jon is taking a smarter and more realistic approach to dealing with the Others. In canon he took a 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' approach and befriended the Wildlings, but realistically that just would never work, because it would require all the Lords of Westeros to truly think think of the Others as their primary enemy. And there's no way that's happening. I like his current strategy of investing in the Wildlings so they have a better chance of putting up a fight with the Others, and letting the Wildlings and the Others exhaust each other's strength. Looking forward to more!
