Great novel.

The Soloverse

I know I waxed poetic on the other pages but I figure if it might help Solone out, I'll do it here too, because this is my second-favorite page from the five we have in this sequence so far. The image and the text complement each other really well. There are two themes in this page that show internal conflict. Peaks is fascinated by her own changes, that look she's giving is one of curiosity and bewilderment, not really fear or pain. As I mentioned in my comments on page 5, that's one theme I personally really enjoy in TF content. Transformation can be alienating from the self, that's what classic works like Metamorphosis are about. But that alienation also comes with discovery, the process of learning about, and potentially accepting, one's new body. As the text here says, Peaks is mesmerized by her own transformation, not scared, she can't stop watching, she wants to see where it's going, even if she doesn't understand it. The second main theme is embarrassment, or maybe more accurately the "urge to hide," which is a frequent theme in a lot of TF works where the character realizes they are changing and actively works to isolate or cover themselves to hide their body from others. There are a lot of in-story reasons for this, sometimes they're afraid that they will be rejected/ostracized/ridiculed for being monstrous, sometimes they're trying to finish an important task in public and the change is a distraction, the list can really go on forever. Here, Peaks thinks this is a delusion that if observed will ruin her political career, but it's an interesting contrast to her process of discovery mentioned earlier. It's ok if she watches herself change... but not for anyone else. In that sense the transformation feels sexual in nature, even if it's not *overtly* sexual yet (though looking at page 5 it will be quite soon). I don't mean to get too metaphorical here, but this collision of themes does have a specifically sexual parallel-- it's like masturbating for the first time. It's mesmerizing, but you also get the feeling you shouldn't let other people see you do it. Again, that's just on a thematic level, maybe I'm talking out of my ass here, but that's just my reading. Sorry for the novel. Also, boobs.
