The third Imperial species is here! Joining the Sastrugi pirates and the enigmatic Dragons, the Kee make up the military wing of the Empire, fighting its wars, managing its supply lines, and enforcing the will of the Dragons throughout their domain.

This artwork comes courtesy of Oouna once again, and I feel like each one is more impressive than the last. There's some lovely detail here, so make sure you zoom in to check out the patterning on the cow's dress and the adornments on the bull's horn. I particularly like the color schemes here. We wanted to do something more interesting and surprising than the usual gray that's associated with pachyderms, so we looked to conceptual patterning for prehistoric pachyderms and existing ungulates for inspiration.

Entirely organically throughout the design process, many features came to influence their culture in significant ways. The blue-green and coral colorations of the horns came to be associated with gender, and the prominent stripes on the male's neck have become a symbol of masculinity that is reflected on their combat armor. We even altered the gaits and postures of the bulls and cows by changing the amount of fat present in the heel of the foot, which acts as a compressive cushion in real elephants. This raises the cow's stance and gives her a daintier look compared to the more flat-footed bull.
