Out-Of-Placers #217

Viracroix knows what the ladies like.

While clams, oysters, mussels and the like are their primary superfood, yinglets can derive an enormous amount of nutrition, as well as the signature dopamine release, from most other forms of slime-meat, such as snails and slugs.

I get the sense that everything Viracroix does is a power grab. All his offer of help are just forms of destabilizing one or more of the enclaves, while simultaneously pulling Vizlet further under his control. Vizlet knows this and turns him down with thoughtful analysis. Like yeah, my friend is a psycho, but he's really considerate and fun to talk to.

Your dedication can be seen in every page and I am honoured beyond words to get to witness it happening Especially if I get to watch u make adorable ratbirds be gay and happy ;)

Every random mook has a story! Seriously though I really do try to write from the mindset that every character has their own lives and goals even if the spotlight isn't on them. And I do make a point of trying to have each page convey SOMEthing, so I'm glad you appreciate that part! : D

Find a man who will do a genocide for you

Especially to yinglets, with no outside help whatsoever

And it's mollusks.

Val Salia

They slip by me sometimes, even now!

If you're lucky

Fair point. Of course overuse of a term can essentially render it largely useless. Like calling people "Hitler" for example. In the 80's, calling someone Hitler was a grave insult and you didn't really like to use the name or hear it used because it kind of felt like you were invoking the name of a monster who might actually show up. Now it's an insult that gets tossed around almost casually.

Finally got to reading it! (Was rereading zhe whole comic aaaall over again <3) Once again I am struck by the depth of your character writing: every opportunity to either deepen or shore up the already-established parts of a character's character is taken. Continuity is achieved not just through the main characters but the background characters as well, no random mooks slapped down inconsiderately of their place or function. I'm probably reading too much into this for hee hoo funi yingle comic, but I can't help it. Every page I smile, or I feel something equally strong. So, thank you, ValSalia, again. I love this comic and even if it were to end right this minute I would go on loving it until the candle of my life goes out.

It's less surgical when you define broad labels for people to be "cut out" than specific individuals like "Mr Smith and the Smith gang need to be dealt with." "Traditionalists" sounds like it could easily encompass "everyone who does not want to advance how I want, where I want, as fast as I want." If it doesn't mean that now, it very easily could in the near future. Eventually the label gets looser and looser. He's one step away from a label as broad as "undesirables."

ArcadeDragon

V isn't advocating genocide, which would be the wiping out entire populations. He's talking in surgical terms, meaning the elimination of select individuals while leaving the population as a whole untouched. Still evil, but more Machiavelli than Hitler. As far as Vislet, well, either she isn't calling him out due to fear, or she sees the utility in his suggestions but wants to save as many of her own people as possible from the path the Elders have set the Enclaves on andnieter of the options V suggested would do that. I think she's going to keep those options in her pocket in case things go all pear shaped, though.

Viz is smart here, if she outright called him a monster for his actions, let alone mention the things he does to, what would prevent her troupe from having an “accident” on the way home? Gotta play it smart given she’s not even on her own terf.

Super Shanko

Trademaster going straight for dehumanization of political opposition and casually mentioning they should be dealt with via a mild genocide just gets glossed over by Vizlet? Seems kinda weird. Especially when it seems she respects a great many traditions and sees value in them, or at least value in not discarding them haphazardly.

ArcadeDragon

As the mafia guy would say…he accidentally stepped into that bucket of cement which quickly hardened causing him to lose his balance and fall off the pier into the river. Accidents happen.

Pfft! 🤣

Crawled more like, Narklet's butt is fairly close to the ground.

Slugs: It's what's for dinner!

I walked right into that one. 😆

CompletelyNewguy

Yeahhh, fraternization with humans, and even worse, experimenting with mingling the two societies together, is a pretty big deal for an almost religiously isolationist species!

Val Salia

NARKLET BUTT

Val Salia

I am going to remember the way you phrased this.

Val Salia

The fugitive/exile must be Brakka and the zealot must be Narklet, but why would they be working together? Is the suspicion that Narklet is trying to frame Vizlet for having made too great a misstep? But I get the idea he would be believed if he just made up a wrongdoing on her part and lied about it. Would their conspiracy have something to do with... Zhe Zhing? I wonder what Vizlet does that's so radical. Fraternizing with humans? I also wonder what kind of trouble exactly Narklet is causing her. I like the weight and flavor of the monumental dilemma Vizlet faces. The need to move forward together, or lose so much of the reason you're moving forward in the first place.

Thorin N. Tatge

I like that image a lot! It would be a little creepy, but it would certainly send a message.

Thorin N. Tatge

Ngl i am interested in seeing more Narklet butt heads with Vizlet. (Or the yinglet slap-fighting.)

CompletelyNewguy

Viracroix seems like the sort to walk the aisle in a trench and put the priest in a hole to bring everybody to Viz's height rather than have her take a ramp at the end and be seen as unequal before.
