Heads up, 3D yings incoming!
Added 2019-08-27 20:47:54 +0000 UTCSo! While obviously 2D comic art is what I spend pretty much all my time making these days, I'm also a capable animator, and have been wanting to make some animation loops and short scenes involving yinglets for a few years now, in order to show off exactly how they look in motion (which can be heavily implied in sequential 2D art, but not shown frame by frame).
The thing is though, my modeling skills have gotten pretty rusty from disuse, and while I could take the time to relearn the important stuff necessary for making a model intended for professional-quality animation rigging, it would take time away from comic production that I just don't have, so this idea has remained as just a "maybe someday" sort of thing.
...Until recently, when a modeler called ZealotDKD ( https://www.furaffinity.net/user/drakosacerdos/ ) offered to create a fully on-spec model intended for the exact sort of rigging and animation I had in mind! So, I'll be providing him a set of very specific and detailed production sketches to create the model from, so that it's as close to the core canon concept as possible.
Naturally, he also has bills to pay, so I wanted to let everyone know about this project, and that it's in the process of getting money raised for it. Normally I'd be pretty hesitant to say "HEY EVERYONE GET SOME MONEY UP IN HERE," but the goal of this project isn't just to create and animation-capable model for me, but also to create a base yinglet model, complete with rigging and poseable anatomy, which will be free for public use; whether it's to mess around with model, customizing it, creating your own animations, or just having a handy poseable canon yinglet model for art reference!
The minimum goal to cover the modeler's expenses is $400, which we've just passed; so now, the more funding it gets, the more time he can spend on details and extras, adding more quality and implementing the model's usage for things like VRChat and Facerig! Which would be pretty darn cool.
He's offering a free custom skin/body texture for anyone putting in $50, and custom accessories/hairstyles/etc for anyone putting in $100.
So if you're interested in pitching in, check out the Google Document we got going for this project below, which includes more details, and ZealotDKD's PayPal ID.

Aside from all the usage this thing will have as a free public asset, I'm really excited to finally show off exactly how these critters look in motion, as I've had a lot of time to mentally work out every little detail.
Thanks for sparing a minute of your attention! You are once again free to go about your plans for the day.

Yes, it should be compatible with everything later on

2019-09-15 03:53:23 +0000 UTCCurrently, my Coin is more locked up then Fort Knox. If I can (no idea how much), I might ask for a Custom OC. Even if it's like a 2D Ref sheet or something like that.

2019-09-13 00:26:49 +0000 UTCthat is exactly the point! the actual terms are in the works, but basically the only limitations are this: dont create ocs with the model for money (as auctions or commissions,) and dont use it in a funded game without consent of val and I. everything else is fine, includign animations/renders for pay (free use is unrestricted. just link back to us) If you want custom textures or changes to the model for your oc, donations and future commissions from me can make that happen

2019-09-01 21:27:21 +0000 UTCJames - my printer only goes down to about .1mm. I miss the days when my father managed a 3D printer room at GE, he could run things for me on printers worht more than most houses.

2019-08-30 12:33:19 +0000 UTCI managed to print out my own version where the legs were about 2mm in diameter on my 0.04mm printer. Use tree supports and try a higher infill.
2019-08-30 05:19:44 +0000 UTCWhen you said Free for Public Use, does that also mean for someone to make a mean to create Yinglet OCs?

2019-08-29 18:32:30 +0000 UTClol yeah Even then, there's a decent chance someone will take a look at the horribly animated porn attempt and go "Wait what the hell are these weird critter things anyway," google 'em and end up discovering the comic. And I am juuuuust fine with that

2019-08-28 16:56:56 +0000 UTCDo what they do; expect the limbs to break, and be ready with splints and bandages!

2019-08-28 16:55:34 +0000 UTCI have yet to work out the finest of details in that regard, but it would definitely be either CC-BY or CC-BY-NC, yeah.

2019-08-28 16:52:43 +0000 UTCHoly moly, this is going to be awesome! Like seriously, the only downside I can see to this is poorly-tweened SFM or SecondLife porn, I am EXCITED!
2019-08-28 06:23:19 +0000 UTCMy first thought was "Woo! 3d printed yinglet!". My second thought was "Shit, FDM 3d printer probably can't print the twiggy limbs without great effort and high breakage risk". My 3rd thought was "woo! Yinglet bust! Almost as good!" Looking forward to it.

2019-08-28 04:33:59 +0000 UTC> which will be free for public use; whether it's to mess around with model, customizing it, creating your own animations, or just having a handy poseable canon yinglet model for art reference! Will the model be put under a Creative Commons license then? Something like CC-BY-NC, that way people can use it, they just have to attribute the original artists and can't use it for commercial gain? Alternatively, it could be under CC-BY, that way they still have to attribute, but can use it for commercial gain (commissions are the focus here).
2019-08-27 23:10:16 +0000 UTCOne thing I love about this concept is how open-source it is; once the model's out there, anyone can pick it up and see what sorts of things they can add to it, or make accessories/scenes/etc for like what you describe!

2019-08-27 21:33:10 +0000 UTCWould you guys like me to build you anything to play around with the animations in? I'm a software engineer with near a decades experience in games so I could build you something if it would help. A viewer to choose an animation/pose, move the camera around, change textures/other assets, etc. Could even use blendshapes to control fluffyness or physique if your modeler feels inclined to offer that My free time is nearly non existent recently, but could do something simple like that if you give me a heads up.
