I'd be willing to bet Vizlet has detailed records of every egg, every step of it's development, and a general ranking/history of the resulting young. Vizlet has been focused on the genetic aspect, though. I wonder, if Rann got to look them over, what patterns would he find?

Interesting. Given the rather err... open policies of the lower rank yinglet males, the females may have some very firm ideas of 'proper female'. And not always to the betterment of them as a society, except in the same way that leaving that egg to die is. It's possible given the previous field guide that thicker egg-shell eggs left to mature for as long as possible then assisted in hatching, might produce better developed younglets. Even if it doesn't result in better physical development it's possible they've been leaving to die the yinglets that would finally solve that whole 'starting a fire without burning themselves and the enclave' conundrum.
