The Val Salian Regional Field Guide, Entry 9: Yinglet Life and Development

Been a while since the last Field Guide page! As usual, the info in these is supplemental to the story. They'll give a lot of info about the details of the setting that won't necessarily be discussed by the characters, to give readers a better idea of the world setting, to give more context and meaning to things that occur in the story, and possibly give some observant readers hints about what's really going on with this or that.

However, there won't be anything buried in them that will be necessary to know in order to follow the main story, partially so that readers can skip them on their first readthrough if they don't feel like slowing down their pace to read these, and still be able to follow the story just fine.

"Remember, House Ivenmoth knows what's best for you!" "Sleep well, citizen" and remember, "Big Brother is watching you!"

steelabjur

Looks like instead of mother/offspring bonding, they do nurse/offspring bonding.

steelabjur

I fully expect the scene to include Kass strangling Lupin screaming "You did this to me!"

Max Last

Oh. oh god. If Rann is right and the egg cycle is similar to bush hens then...Kass is going to lay an egg sooner rather than later, whether fertilized or not.

Max Last

Kinda ominous, that part about the new birthing practices and potential health effects. I would also imagine it has am effect on reducing mother/offspring bonding, which may have further negative affects

ArcadeDragon

Pretty sure he hates me, but it's god, it's his prerogative

Patrick Tait

It's the yim that makes it special!

Val Salia

This is appropriate

Val Salia

And God loves you

Val Salia

Lifespan does vary a lot with this species! 30-ish just tends to be the averaged-out amount

Val Salia

Hey now *I* didn't explain any of this, this is all coming from Ran!

Val Salia

Kass loves scientific discovers SO MUCH

Val Salia

While 30's the general average, these things can live anywhere from 20-40 (or more?) depending on their weirdass genes

Val Salia

Just think; in 10,000 years, Kass will probably be dead

Val Salia

Quit worrying about spelling and complete your asignment

Val Salia

Yim yum says the nurse.

T0mmen

I am horrified.

ZBL

God I love these field guides.

Patrick Tait

But at least there gets to be a lot of them! Plus, their shellteeth are cute and useful. :)

Thorin N. Tatge

Oh nu! That means poor Kassie, assuming the young adult human body became a rough equivalent of yinglet maturity, only has, what, 18 years remaining? T^T Unless females have longer life spans. Hmm now I can't get the image of old lady Kassie out of my head. "You dang young'uns stay offa my dirt lump!"

Badviper

But... but... you said you wont explain any more 😥 XD

Delicious!

Max Last

Earlier conversations might have been more aimed towards average lifespan which...the average yinglet does not really reach 'old' age so much as 'old enough to do something fatally stupid' or just 'old enough to be not quite fast enough to dodge anymore'.

Max Last

25years is rare it says. I wonder how old Kass' ying body is though. She could be 5-7 in Ying years

ArcadeDragon

I love getting all this data! Keep sending Kass out into the disgusting world beyond! For science!

ArcadeDragon

Zhe age zhing seems a bit pulled in from what I remember yes... zhis was a slight shift in early conversations... *ponders*

Sesra

Oh, that grandpa Yinglet is 25 years old. Makes me worry for Kass's future.

Yikes. 25 years. I hope Kass was aged relative between human and yinglet development.

Halcyon

Highly increased awkwardness levels. *Just terrible.* (also, I do believe it's "assigned" not "asigned")

Kendra Kirai

Wow, they have a pitiful lifespan and have mutated a more rapid hatching at the cost of physical health, AND they also suffer frequent dementia. It's like they've gotten all the worst aspects of the Opossum's lifespan and breeding with none of the benefits. AND NO CUTE PREHENSILE TAIL.

Vodyanoi

NO ANOTHER

Val Salia

Yes another
