A Lusty Argonian Question, redo
Added 2017-04-23 03:12:21 +0000 UTC
(Sorry, messed up the poll configuration on the first one!)
A few artists whose opinion I value have suggested something to me, and I figured it would be a good idea to ask all you Patreon folks about it.
I've been occasionally drawing pages of another transformation-based mini-comic for a while; which started as a concept I just planned on drawing a few unconnected scene illustrations for, but people enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting, so I kept it going.
Chances are that if you read the Out-of-Placers, you might've checked out one of my art accounts at some point and come across it- Lusty Argonian Maid'd . Which is exactly what it sounds like.
Where The OOPs is more grounded, this one's a light sexy comedy, and until I opened this Patreon, I'd been drawing a page for every 2 or 3 OOPs pages. They tended to be simpler, and not take quite as long.
Anyway! With OOPs pages being Patreon-funded, they've taken a much higher priority than Lusty Argonian Maid'd and I've kinda let it fall to the side for now. It's been suggested by more than a few artists I respect that I consider adding it to the Patreon, and drawing a page of it once a month or so (or more, if enough people want that).
So, what would you all think of me adding it to the Patreon roster, so that a Lusty Argonian Maid'd page will resume popping up between every few OOPs pages? The frequency could be determined later, likely by Patreon voting, but for now I'd just like to see what the general opinion is around here.
By all means comment if you've got anything in particular to say or ask on the matter!
Im giggling.

I certainly love both, keep up the good work.

You in general, because we love you.
Okay, I can only speak for myself, but I think most people here like your work in general enough to fund anything you want to work on.

"Val Salia is creating webcomics about inconvenient changes"
I think the Argonian maid still falls in that category soooo.... :p

I love both of them immensely, so I don't really see any drawback. I'm not even usually into licensed characters like Argonians (or Disney, Pokemon, etc.) but I feel like you've really made this one your own and I enjoy it a lot. Luckily, it looks like most of the voters so far are in agreement.

I think the current poll numbers say we'll more LAM shortly.
I personally always loved that series and I'm excited to see it come back.

My support for what it's worth is toward the creator. I enjoy the artwork, storytelling and humor in general and would like to see both.

I think we already covered the Yinglet Da Vinci angle with the Yinglet inventions page. On the other hand, those aquaducts DO get my water wheel churning...

My thoughts exactly :)

The upside is that if I did change it to TF comics in general, this Patreon's description of "Val Salia is making stories about inconvenient changes" would still apply! Because I'm sure as hell not about the convenient ones.

Well, I know what my next sketchvote suggestion will be.

While I can see both points of view, I agree with those (apparently the majority) who see Patreon itself in the old sense of the root word. It's about the artist. You say "Da Vinci! I asked for some paintings of aquaducts!" and he's like, "Bam! Blueprints for a flying tank. YOU'RE WELCOME." And you say, "Goddamn right I'm welcome. I mean, thank you. Wait, what's a tank?"

Thanks, good to know! I think the underlying question in this poll is how many other supporters feel the same.
i.e. If they're supporting this Patreon to see specifically more OOPs, or stuff from me in general.

My gut feeling is that most people are drawn to your work because of the TF nature, and your capacity for humor and storytelling, and so I don't think anyone backing you here so far would mind seeing stuff other than OOPS.
However for the sake of transparency It might be worth considering changing the focus of your Patreon to not be exclusively OOP and simply making it about your TF comics in general.

It's one of the problems people forget when tackling big projects on Patreon, trapping themselves in a creative box and relying on that project financially. It's good to give yourself more room creatively to make your living.
"Well, I really like drawing that other comic sometimes, but if i do I make 3/4th's my normal monthly income" kind of sucks.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking. If my choice is between drawing a page that will help pay the bills/student loans/etc and drawing one that won't, it definitely tilts in favor of the funded one.

That's the biggest point in my mind, really. Of course, if the idea is popular enough, I may as well devote more time to drawing/posting pages in general!

I support the artist, not the comic so post LAM, OOP and any other TLA's you so desire. I look fonward to the posts.

This captures my thoughts on the matter pretty well.

While OOPs is great, I think allowing yourself the freedom to occasionally put out an alternate themed comic page using your Patreon is a great idea.
Right now you are incentivized to ignore all alternate projects in favor of only working on OOPs and related works. I think side stories are a perfect addition to the regular OOPs pages, and don't pigeon hole you into working on OOPs all the time if you have another great idea.
In the long run, giving you the chance to take a break from OOPs pages will result in more time to think out the comic and keep you from burning out on one project. Which will result in more quality OOPs stuff I bet!
This is your patreon after-all, and it's about getting quality work from you first and foremost :B

I do love the LAM posts, but would also understand that someone that does not would be worried about losing OOP pages (which are still preciously rare) in favor of it.
i.e. I'd be fine going from 3 OOP pages per month to 2 OOP and 1 LAM, but they might not.
To ensure that you can afford to spend the extra time on it without cutting into OOP, you could put it up as another goal. That way you would have enough income to warrant the time, and people can vote with their wallet as well.
Make it a $600 incentive and I'm sure that it would be met quite quick :)
