Sorry about the very late reply. These are rite-in-the-rain and they're coated in weather-resistant material. I wouldn't want to recommend something insane like vellum as an equivalent. Typical printer paper is always good, and most sketchbooks will have a smooth variant. It's best to see these in person in hobby stores.
