Sent on an expedition on false pretenses to gather a sample... It turns out that Nao was sent to Weyland-Yutani-styled mission to be the test subject or whatever.
They have successfully recovered the medical nanogel. This lost technology will have so many applications, but it turns out that it was configured for some kind of aesthetic, possibly superficial modifications.
They'll work out the bugs with the programming... And Nao will probably not complain too much about it giving them the ability to conveniently shapeshift into all kinds of fun forms.
